Customs officials find $33,000 worth of cocaine hidden inside cakes kept in passenger's luggage

(Scroll down for video) A plane passenger who flew from Mexico to New York, was arrested on a charge of drug tracking after allegedly hiding cocaine inside several cakes, which he had placed in his luggage among his belongings, the Port Authority Police said,


U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agriculture specialists and officers discovered the cocaine while performing an X-ray examination of luggage belonging to Jesus Martinez Ramirez of Mexico City.

CBP agriculture specialists noticed an anomaly on the X-ray of a cake, and discovered that a package was concealed within it.

CBP agriculture specialists requested assistance from CBP officers who escorted Martinez Ramirez to a private search room, where he was probed about the concealed package.

A test of the white powder was positive for cocaine.

In total, CBP discovered five cakes that contained approximately 2 pounds of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $33,000.

CBP officers placed Jesus Martinez Ramirez under arrest and turned him over to the Port Authority Police Department. He now faces smuggling charges and will be prosecuted by the Queens County District Court.
