Police in Kenya have warned rich Kenyan women on the need to be weary of falling in love with Nigerian men. This warning is coming due to the increasing illegal influx of Nigerian immigrants into the country. According to the Star, government spokesman Eric Kiraithe said most of the Nigerian men enter Kenya as tourists but do not register formally with their High Commission in Nairobi.
“They come here after identifying their targets and bypass getting any kind of formal identification so that they can operate without suspicion. The department of immigration is creating strong laws to be tabled in Parliament before the situation gets out of control,” explained Kiraithe. Kiraithe went further to explain that these men target rich women and seduce them to marry them. After which they will swindle them, steal from them, or commit a crime and disappear.
The immigrants who can be found in Eastlands’ Donholm, Komarock and Umoja estates, Thika road’s Thome, Kasarani and Roysambu areas, and lavish areas like Kileleshwa and Runda, end up working in the country without permits and operate comfortably in mid and high end estates. Common methods most men use are phishing whereby they create fake accounts using women’s pictures to befriend you and then later recommend themselves to you.
This is mostly rampant on Facebook. Kenyan women have been said to fall for Nigerian men easily because of the façade these men put on to appear rich. They are known to flaunt their worldly belongings as well as using their accents to appear exotic in charming women.
