The long-awaited budget 2016 sparked another public outcry among Nigerians after reports emerged on Saturday, April 9, that the National Assembly removed certain key infrastructural projects proposed by President Muhammadu Buhari from the 2016 appropriation bill.
An anonymous presidential source was quoted to have hinted that the president proposed a N60 billion Lagos-Calabar rail project in the budget but was allegedly removed from the budget by the National Assembly. It was alleged that the Lagos-Kano rail project was left untouched while the money earmarked for the Idu-Kaduna rail was slashed.
Though Yakubu Dogara, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, on Sunday, April 10, denied the report and confirmed that the president did not propose any Lagos-Calabar rail project in the budget submitted to the National Assembly, Nigerians who now have limited trust for political office holders and their cronies took to their micro-blogging site (Twitter) to react to the mystery surrounding the 2016 appropriation bill.
