Corruption: APC chieftain arrested; arraigned by EFCC



The EFCC has arraigned a former governorship aspirant, Adamu for alleged conspiracy
– He allegedly received money to supply iron ore and zinc but fled after receiving the money
– The court remanded him in prison and adjourned the case
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested and arraigned Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu on charges bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence.
PM News reports that Adamu who was a former gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi state was arraigned before a Plateau high court 2 in Jos, Plateau state.

The former governorship aspirant was arraigned alongside his company, Solid Unit Nig. Ltd, before Justice Yakubu Dakawak on Thursday, June 9.

Aliyu Bokani Usman who is the prosecutor said Adamu collected N23,431 from one Olajide Olaleye, for the supply of iron ore and zinc. After receiving the money, Adamu was nowhere to be found.

This he said contravened section 8 (a) and punishable under section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Related Offences Law of 2006.
Adamu however said he was not guilty of the offence but the prosecutor urged the court to remand him in prison and asked for a trial date.
Gyang Zio who is the counsel to the defence begged the court to grant Adamu bail in self-recognition.
Justice Dakawak adjourned the case to Friday, June 10, for ruling on the bail application. He also ordered that Adamu be remanded in prison pending the determination of the application for bail
Meanwhile, the former governor of Enugu state, Sullivan Chime was interrogated by the EFCC on Wednesday, June 8 in connection to N23 billion disbursed by the former minister for petroleum resources, Diezani Madueke.
It was reported that the former minister took charge of the distribution of bribe in the build-up to the 2015 general election and several persons involved in the fund have been arrested by the anti-graft agency.
