BENIN CITY—THE Benin Traditional Council, BTC, has said that the Benin monarch, Oba Ewuare 11, will not be part of any leadership crisis in the Traditional Rulers of Oil, Minerals Producing Communities, TROMPCOM.•Oba Ewuare II of Benin The Oba also urged Muslims to use the period of Eid-el-Kabir to reflect on the virtues of the occasion to pray for continued peace, unity and progress of Nigeria. BTC in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Oba, Mr Desmond Agbama, expressed shock that the paramount ruler of Ibeno Kingdom in Akwa Ibom state, HRM (Dr) Owong Effiong Bassey, was claiming the chairmanship of the body after the Amayanabor Twon Brass, HRH Diete-Spiff and other members of TROMPCOM, had pleaded with the Oba to chair the association for the next two years. It will be recalled that few days after HRH Diete-Spiff led other members of the TROMPCOM to the palace of the Benin monarch to appeal to him to take over the leadership of TROMPCOM which he accepted, the paramount ruler of Ibeno kingdom in Akwa Ibom State announced that he was the authentic chairman of TROMPCOM. The palace of the BTC in the statement, noted that when HRH Diete-Spiff paid a visit to the Oba, saying: “He informed the Benin monarch that the position of chairman of TROMPCOM was rotational for two years and that it was the turn of Edo State to hold the chairmanship position. He pleaded with the Oba to kindly accept the responsibility. “Out of respect for traditional rulers, the Oba of Benin received HRM Diete-Spiff at short notice and without prior knowledge of why they were visiting.”
