A 38-year-old man, Chidiebere John was on Tuesday caught while having sex with a 7-year-old girl.
The suspect was caught by neighbours in Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos state while having sex with the minor in his apartment, along Palace Street in the area.
According to PM Express, the suspect lured the victim into his apartment, locked his door from inside and pulled her pant before he raped her.
However, he was caught after one of the neighbours heard the minor screaming and alerted other neighbours who rescued her.
He was handed over to the police who charged him to a Lagos court with defilement under the Criminal Code.
Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed that he did not know what came over him and could not believe that he would do such a thing.
He asked for forgiveness, while begging the victim’s family to bring the matter out of court for settlement.
The presiding Magistrates, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi in ruling, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Mrs Osunsanmi ordered that the suspect be remanded in prison custody pending when he fulfills his bail condition.
The case was then adjourned till 20th November, 2017.
