"Blood everywhere" as window cleaner plunges onto pavement on busy street

A window cleaner fell from a height along one of London's busiest shopping streets this morning.

The worker fell onto the pavement at around 6: 30 a.m. and he was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. The scene of the fall was gory and horrified commuters report seeing blood everywhere. Police raced to the scene and cordoned off the area - with one man claiming an officer pointed a machine gun at him as he walked past and told him to keep moving and not take photos. Pictures from the scene show police tape around a lorry which appears to be empty inside.

Scott Collins, who walked past the scene shortly after the incident occurred, said: "There was a lorry on the pavement at Oxford Street - Blood everywhere on pavement. Police asked me to move on swiftly whilst pointing machine gun at me."

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed the incident, saying: "Officers were called at 6.30am on Tuesday, November 14 to Oxford Street, near Harewood Place. A man in his mid 40s, believed to be a window-cleaner, had fallen from a height. London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended the scene.

"The man was taken to a central London hospital in a serious condition. Next of kin have been informed. The Heath and Safety Executive has been informed. Roads are closed while emergency services deal with the situation."
The spokesman said they were not sure if the man fell from a platform or a building.
