How to turn your kids' Lunchbox from zero to hero

Are you one of those mummies rubbing their foreheads in frustration? Then this post is for you. You try and try to put the most nutritious and healthy food items in your children’s lunchbox, ignoring their groans because you know that it’s for their own good right!?? In fact, the only thing making you wince is that you forgot to include a yummy pack or 2 of their favourite chocolatey MILO drink in their lunchboxes. How could you? Did you, perchance want them for yourself? Gasp!

Remember that you don’t want your children having big eye and doing longer meow meow every time their friends bring out their lunchboxes. Guess what? There are different ways to turn into Super-Mum/Dad instead of ‘mummy must not like us to give us these things to eat’.
You want your child’s lunch to be fun, yummy but also healthy. They are growing so this is the time to ensure every little thing that goes into their body actually fuels it the right way – but in an appetizing way too!
  1. Make it colourful. Little fruit bowl with different colours like red grapes, orange…well, oranges haha, green apples, blueberries etc. Children are very visual and will gravitate towards their favourite colours, so take that into consideration!

  1. Googley google. It can be very tiring having to think of delicious, wholesome lunches every day but this is when you sit down over the weekend and trawl the internet to help you make a list for your weekly timetable. Google is your friend. Once done, go shopping. Take your children with you for their input; after all, they are the ones you’re researching and plotting for!

  1. Switch things up. Don’t give them the same thing weekly. Once you’re done with the above, always make sure you switch their lunches up. Your line up for this week should not be the same for the next week. They are not in the army, plix!

  1. Always always include a treat. They are not models so don’t stick to whole-grain and wheat and hummus all the time. They are children and love fun food items. Include their favourite cookies – maybe one or two. Slide in their favourite cake – a nice, medium-sized slice. Make sure they’re well hydrated with water, juice and their favourite chocolate drink. Luckily, the beauty of MILOs ready-to-drink packs means they enjoy the delicious chocolatey taste and it’s nutritious and healthy too. Win win!

  1. Be creative. Not every time triangular sandwiches. Sometimes rectangular or squares. Switch up the fillings too. Use different types of pasta – spaghetti today, fusilli later, macaroni another time. Your children don’t want to feel like they are eating the same thing all the time. Heck, you don’t want to feel the same way too!

Are you done reading this? Now grab a pen and paper (and a MILO RTD pack, go on…you deserve it!) and reread carefully; this time make notes as you do so!
