84 Niger nationals arrested while smuggled into Abuja in goat truck

84 Niger nationals arrested while smuggled into Abuja in goat truck lailasnewsA goat truck which was used in smuggling 84 nationals of the Niger Republic into Abuja on Friday, was intercepted by troops of the Nigerian Army stationed at a checkpoint at Karu, FCT.The Sakaruyi (Chief) of Karu, Emmanuel Kyauta, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the Niger Republic nationals who were packed in the truck with rams and goats, were arrested close to the Karu abattoir.

“ I am glad they were arrested before they disembarked from the lorry that brought them because of their number and because the manner in which they came into the FCT is suspicious.
“ How can 84 men of between the ages of 20 and 35 years leave their country for another without following the appropriate channel; and how can they dress the lorry to deceive people and the security operatives that the  lorry is carrying only goats and sheep when 84 men were hiding under the animals?’’ he said.
He also called on residents of Karu and its environs to be security conscious and not to leave security of lives and property to just the Police, soldiers vigilance groups and others, alone.

The immigrants have long been handed to the Immigration Headquarters in the FCT, who are processing their deportation plan.
