Family left in horror as funeral home mistakenly cremates the wrong woman’s body

Family left in horror as funeral home mistakenly cremates the wrong woman?s bodyThe Berwick Funeral Chapel is currently under investigation after mixing up the bodies of three people, causing one to be accidentally cremated.

Sandra Bennet who died on December 20, 2017 at the of 65 is caught up in the mix up as her family is having to come to terms with the fact they won’t get to say goodbye to her the way they planned.

Bennet’s family arrived at the funeral home on December 27 for visitation and were reportedly presented with two different bodies. While the second body was dressed in Bennet’s clothes, neither was actually her.

The funeral home’s website states: “all reputable cremation providers use rigorous sets of operation procedures and policies to maximize their level of service, which minimizes the risk of human errors.”

Before Bennett's open-casket visitation was set to begin, family members say Bennett's widower, Gary, pointed out to funeral home staff that the body of the woman in the casket was not his wife.

After some discussion, that casket was wheeled out and another brought in. That one also did not contain his wife's body, but the deceased woman was wearing Bennett's clothes, according to family members.  After both bodies were taken away, funeral home staff returned to explain that Bennett's body had been mistakenly cremated.

Funeral home complaints in the province are handled by the Nova Scotia Board of Registration of Embalmers and Funeral Directors, which is currently investigating this case.
