Minutes after some Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) operatives arrested her 17-year-old son, a 42-year-old hypertensive woman identified as Asiata Adeyanju reportedly died of shock as a result of the incident.Asisat reportedly slumped and died close to her 9, Ajenifuja Street, Ilupeju, Lagos home on Wednesday night, after FSARS operatives from Ipakodo Division in Ikorodu, who have been reportedly arresting people in the area in the last two weeks, arrested Muiz, the deceased’s son, when he was about switching on the generator in front of their home.
The deceased’s neighbour identified as Emmanuel, a teacher was reportedly slapped by the operatives when he tried to stop them from taking Muiz away, who they also slapped and hurled him into an unmarked van. Late Mrs Adeyanju who rushed out with just her wrapper and chased the police van, slumped at a spot and died while being rushed to a nearby hospital.
Muiz’s release however came at a price after Late Mrs Adeyanju’s husband, Musendiku Adeyanju, later met with the operatives at Ilupeju Junction, off Adesiyan Street. The Nation reports that the operatives hurriedly left the area when they learnt of Muiz’s mother’s death, and none of those arrested was taken to the police station.
The Nation also reported that there was wailing on Ajenifuja Street yesterday, when Mrs Adeyanju’s body was brought back home. Sympathizers rained curses on the operatives, describing FSARS as an “evil organisation”.
Some residents complained that the operatives had been coming to the area for “illegal raids and indiscriminate arrests”. At her wife’s funeral Mr Adeyanju, 43, was all tears. .
He described his wife’s death as “devastating agony”, wondering what his son’s offence was to warrant his arrest by the FSARS.
Recall that earlier today, we reported that a Nigerian lady, Estellar Adebayo, took to Instagram to accuse some Lagos State Police Officers of harassing and assaulting her, all because they were looking for money.
