Ghanaian government to install CCTVs in all police stations Lailasnews 1The Ghanaian government has announced plans to install Closed-Circuit Televisions (CCTV) at all the police stations across the 216 districts in the country.
Vice President of the country, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia made this announcement as part of the country’s initiative and plans to restructure the Police Service and enhance security at police posts. The development follows reports of heightened attacks on personnel of the police service.

A gang of criminals recently attacked the Kwabenya District Police Headquarters, killing the officer on duty, and freeing some seven remand prisoners.
The incident raised concerns about safety at police posts, with many criticizing the government for failing to adequately equip the Service.
Current figures show that from 2016 to January 2018, 17 police officers have lost their lives in the line of duty.
The total number of police deaths from 2013 to date stands at 48.
The Vice President made this promise when he delivered a speech on behalf of President Nana Akufo-Addo at a ceremony to pass out new Police Cadets.
“Negotiations have just been completed for the rollout of Phase 2 of the Alpha Project which will involve the deployment of 8,700 CCTV cameras in all 216 districts with three command centres in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale. In line with our plans to equip the Police better, at least 1,000 new vehicles will be procured for the service this year.
“Already two hundred pick-up vehicles have been allocated with two hundred salon vehicles to be delivered in six weeks time with more to come,”
The Vice President did not state the time during which this new developments will be implemented but from indications of the speech, it is very much likely the CCTV cameras are installed before the end of the year.
Government has also announced plans to allocate GH¢800 million to the Police Service to boost their operations and assist them in ensuring adequate security of lives and properties in the country.
