Emma Hannigan dead at 45: Author passes away with book at number one in charts after brave battle with cancer

Author Emma Hannigan has died at the age of 45 following a battle with cancer with her book at number one in the charts.
Her latest novel Letters to my Daughters has shot to the top of the book shops in Ireland.

On Wednesday official book sales monitor Nielsen said that Hannigan’s novel had sold 4,065 copies in the last week, making it Ireland’s bestselling title.
There had been a campaign by Irish authors to get Hannigan to the top of the charts following the news her cancer diagnosis was terminal.
Hannigan turned her hand to writing in 2005 after she was told she had breast cancer.

On February 16, she announced on her blog that “all avenues have now been exhausted” in her latest round of treatment.

The author added: “Faced with very little time can I tell you what screams out at me? Love. Nothing else has much meaning any more…
"The love in my heart is all that matters now. I am broken-hearted at having to say goodbye, so if it’s all right we’ll say farewell instead.”
Emma is survived by her husband Cian and children Sacha and Kim.
