A suspected fake female lawyer, Beatrice Obiageli Nnamuoh, 35, has been arrested for parading herself as a lawyer in Imo State . The suspect was arrested at Orlu after defrauding members of the public of over N342,000 under the pretence of selling auctioned vehicles to them, having severally posed as a Lawyer.In the course of investigation, Nnamuoh confessed to being a fake Lawyer of 5 years. She also confessed to have forged the letter headed papers bearing Basil C. Okereke – Seat of Wisdom Chambers No.10 Orlu/Amakohia Road.
Another suspected fake male lawyer, Omoniyi Vacoster, was on arrested in Ogun State while parading himself as a genuine legal practitioner and appearing as a counsel for unsuspecting members of the public.
He was arrested following a complaint by one Omomehin Oluwatoyin of Ogun State chapter of Nigeria Bar Association.
Oluwatoyin was said to have reported that the suspect has been coming to various courts in Ogun State to defend cases, however, adding that the association’s investigation about him indicated that he has never at any time been called to the Bar.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyeyemi, said, on interrogation, the suspect confessed he has never been called to the Bar.
This is not the first time that fake lawyers will be arrested after parading themselves as legal practitioners. In a similar case that occured in 2017, one Oyetunji reported that the Nigeria Bar Association received complaints from some individuals alleging that one Mr. I. T. David, who practised as a legal practitioner in Kwara state was not an authentic lawyer.
It added that Adogun was apprehended by the police while appearing as a legal practitioner before the Area Court 1, Ilorin, and was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for a discreet investigation.
The FIR said investigation conducted by the SCIID revealed the real name of the suspect as Peter Adogun and not Inufin Taiwo David, whom he impersonated.
The report further stated that photocopies of certificates of Inufin Taiwo David presented by the accused as his own were credentials the suspect allegedly deceitfully collected from a lawyer by the name who practised in Abuja.
He allegedly collected the documents on the pretext of assisting the original owner in securing employment in an oil company.
