Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), has arrested one Osigbovo from Benin, Edo State who has reportedly been impersonating Nollywood actor, Mike Ezuruonye.The arrest of the suspect came after Mike Ezuruonye, petitioned the police over impersonators who have been running down his brand by duping unsuspecting fans. A source who confirmed the report said;Today, one of the alleged culprits was apprehended by the EFCC. The suspect is identified as Osigbovo from Benin, Edo State.
He is currently in the custody of EFCC for collecting large sums of money from female fans of the actor. He allegedly used Ezuruonye’s image and videos and superimposed his own voice to deceive these women.
Recall that in December 2017, what ought to have been a post for well wishers after Mike Ezuruonye made a birthday shoutout to a friend, turned out to be a ”drama-like’ post, as one of his 900k+ followers decided to call him out for being wicked and fraudulent. She claimed that Mike is not just a wicked person but also a robber. In her words;
This man is not who you think it is he is so wicked. Be aware of women woman dead come to Rob and steal what you have be careful of this man will say is Mike.
However the actor responded immediately, and tried to make her understand that she most likely was scammed by one of his many social media impersonators. He wrote
My dear..Pls im sure a fraudster must have used fake videos to deceive u cos I guess this is why u are here trying to spoil my name..Hmn..Go down my page and see warnings and photo and video examples …I have privately caught caught some boys but cos of strategics they haven’t been exposed yet as due process is needed ..But trust me 3 men are already in Jail and one awaiting trial for this fraud…The Inspector General of Police office ,Nigeria and other Police authorities internationally are aware.
