Recall that before now, there has been an #endsars campaign on social media, which was expected to scrap and end the deployment of Nigeria Police of Nigeria Police Force Special Anti-Robbery Squad, popularly known as SARS.
Following the viral trend, Nigerians shared stories of how the SARS engaged in unlawful arrest, high-handedness, humiliation, detention and extortion. A petition signed by 10,195 people was also submitted to Nigeria’s National Assembly calling for scrapping of SARS.
Few months ago, three policemen were dismissed from the Police force after extorting money from a citizen, who they said was a yahoo boy. A statement by Assistant Commissioner Of Police of the Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU) in Abuja, Abayomi Shogunle, said the dismissal followed an internal trial at which the men were found guilty, under the Police Act, of corrupt practices and discreditable conduct.
