A man carrying a knife shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ has been shot dead by police after murdering a passer-by and seriously injuring two others in a Paris suburb.
The attack took place in the commuter town of Trappes, in the Yvelines department west of the French capital.
According to witnesses quoted in French media, the man shouted 'Allahu akbar', meaning
'God is great' in Arabic, as he carried out the attack.
The Islamic State has since claimed responsibility for the attack, however, French officials have said it is not clear if the violence was terror-related.
A tweet posted on ISIS's propaganda account shortly after the attack said the man had heeded their calls to target 'nationals of coalition countries.'
