''Boko Haram has threatened to kill my daughter in October'' - Leah Sharibu's mother cries out

The mother of 15-year-old Leah Sharibu, Mrs. Rebecca Sharibu, has appealed to the Federal Government to do everything it can to ensure her daughter’s release from Boko Haram's captivity as the sect members have issued a threat that Leah would be killed by the second week of October, if government does not meet their demands.

Mrs Sharibu made the appeal amidst tears at a meeting organised by Rev. Gideon Para-Mallam, founder of the Citizen Monitoring Group (CMG) yesterday September 29th. Although she did not mention the demand, the distraught mother said the sect members notified her some days ago that the ongoing negotiation between them and the Federal government is not going as agreed and that they might execute Leah soon.

Speaking in Hausa and interpreted in English by one Dr. Gloria Samdi Pudlu, Mrs. Sharibu appreciated the concern shown by the entire world over their plight, and urged Federal Government, President Buhari, Vice President Osinbajo and Secretary to the Government of the federation to do everything possible to ensure Leah is released before the deadline.
“A threat has been sent out that with effect from October, Leah will be the next in line to be killed. They said she pleaded with Federal Government to do whatever is required to ensure her release before that time.”

Mrs Sharibu also denied claims that her family took the Federal Government to court, saying they were not aware of such issue.
Leah’s father, Nathan Sharibu also told journalists in Adamawa that the insurgents did not mention their demands.
“They just said if Federal Government did not respond to their demands, they would go violent. We don’t know their demands. We are pleading with the whole world to mount pressure on the Federal Government to help release this girl.” he said
