The police have dismissed Inspector Charles Omotosho, an operative of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), over an allegation of extortion.
His dismissal was revealed in a series of tweets on Friday, by the Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU), three months after Omotosho was arrested for the offence.
According to the unit, the Assistant-Inspector General of Police Zone 2, Lagos, AIG Ibrahim Adamu, has reviewed the Orderly Room proceedings and approved the punishment of Omotosho’s dismissal.
He was found guilty of the anti-corruption laws of the police while his uniforms and identity card have since been retrieved from him, the PCRRU added.
The police also demoted other accomplices of the dismissed inspector, whose identities were not disclosed, from the rank of sergeant to corporal.
Omotosho was apprehended in May for allegedly arresting a lady in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, after which he was said to have forcefully collected N5,000 from the victim.
