Nigerian family facing deportation granted permission to stay in Ireland after online appeal

A family faced with fears of deportation have been told they can stay in Ireland following a social media appeal.
School pals of Tullamore College student Nonso Moujeke, 14, set up an appeal to help Nonso and his family stay in Ireland, after a deportation order was issued last June.

Following the death of his father, Nonso moved to Ireland from Nigeria when he was two years old, alongside his mother and older brother, Viktor.
The Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) of the Department of Justice and Equality has today confirmed that three members of a Tullamore based family have in recent days had their deportation orders revoked and they have been granted permission to remain in the State.
Offaly TD Barry Cowen welcomed the move.
He said: “Further to on-going representations I am delighted to be advised that Nonso & the Muojeke Family have been given permission under Leave to Remain in the State.
“I very much welcome the Department’s decision to allow this family remain living in their local community of Tullamore.”
The petition to stop Nonso’s deportation was signed by 22,000 people.
Speaking through an intermediary, the Muojeke family said it was “overwhelmed by the news” and wished for privacy at this time.
