Nollywood actress Chika Ike has opened up on her failed marriage. She tells The Nation the issues:
"I think it has to do with so many reasons; one of them might be being young. Some people get married that young and have been able to make their marriages work. But if you’re young, you’re young.
There are some things you’ve not experienced. You might not be able to stay calm when you’re supposed to stay calm, understand when you’re supposed to understand or leave what you’re supposed to leave.
"I think it has to do with age and so many other things like compatibility and not being true to yourself in the marriage. Everybody has a limit.
There are some things in marriage that you might not be able to stand. Some people’s limit might not be my limit; my limit might be somebody’s starting point.

"Marriage is a beautiful institution. I will never talk down on marriage because it’s something I still look forward to. It’s what every woman hopes for. Though I’m focused on my career right now, I do have a very special person in my life."

Lebanon moves to abolish law that allows rapists to escape punishment by marrying their victims

Lebanese lawmakers on Wednesday took the first step to overturn a law that allows rapists to avoid punishment if they marry their victims. Article 522 of the penal code states that if a man rapes an unmarried woman, he can avoid prosecution for the crime if he marries the victim.

This move came a day after protesters wearing fake-blood-stained wedding gowns confronted lawmakers just steps away from Parliament in the capital Beirut.

After a scheduled review of Article 522, Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri revealed that a parliamentary committee had agreed to push forward with a plan that would abolish the law.

In Lebanon, among other Middle Eastern countries, rape is seen as an mark against a woman and her family's honor. Victims of rape are sometimes pushed to marry their attacker as a way to preserve their honor and lead a normal life.

Shocking! U.K Nurse sacked for discussing Christianity & offering to pray with patients before operations ...photo

Sister Sarah Kuteh, a nurse with 15 years’ experience was sacked for discussing Christianity and offering to pray with patients before their operations. Kuteh, who's a mother-of-three, was dismissed for breaching guidelines, even though her job involved asking people preparing for surgery about their religion.

Recalling how she was suspended and escorted from Darent Valley hospital in Dartford, Kent, Kuteh said: ‘It was embarrassing for me – and painful after all I had done in my years as a nurse. I was told I couldn’t even speak to my colleagues. All I had done was to nurse from my heart. How could it be harmful to tell someone about Jesus?’

She admitted she may have spoken to a few patients without their express permission when she first began the job, but was more careful after a warning in April 2016 that there had been complaints. In June, She was ‘shocked’ when they told her that three further complaints had been made, after which she was told to stop assessing patients and was suspended a few days later. She was sacked in August after an investigation, and her appeal rejected.

The bosses at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust however insist that her discussions were unwanted and this had upset patients. They also claim that Kuteh failed to heed warnings that she was being unprofessional.

She is now suing the hospital for unfair dismissal, describing her sacking as ‘disproportionate and punitive’.

Update! Super Falcons refuse to leave camp until their entitlements are paid

The victorious Super Falcons of Nigeria who were crowned queens of Africa after beating Cameroon in the AWCON final have continued their protest at the nonpayment of their allowances and bonuses despite the assurances of the sports minister, Solomon Dalung. The girls have refused to leave their camp until they have been paid their dues.

On Thursday, Dalung held a meeting with the players, pleading that process to secure their entitlement was still on but his pleas yielded no success as the new African queens insisted they will only quit their Abuja hotel until they were paid. A Falcon star who spoke to Goal.com on condition of anonymity said: "We are not ready to leave the hotel. We have heard enough promises but all we want is for our entitlement to be paid.

"We're not really happy with the way we're treated. We are not even talking about getting reward yet.
"But a workman should be paid after his or her service but ours is not like that rather they speak to us in a manner like we don't deserve to be paid."
Another player insists their protest is not only about their unpaid bonuses, but the unfair treatment and poor attention to the women's game in the country.
“We are not fighting for ourselves because of money, but for the future of women’s football in Nigeria."

According to the NFF, the players are entitled to a $3,000 each for a win and $1,500 for a draw in the group stages, while victory in the semi-finals gives them another $4,000.

They will get another $5,000 each for defeating Cameroon in the continental showpiece's final meaning each player will pocket $16, 500 each.

The Super Falcons are the latest victims of the NFF's sloppiness when it comes to paying players. Earlier this year, the Women's U17 and U20 teams were decamped with token N10,000 and N30,000 following their early exits from the Jordan 2016 Fifa u17 Women's World Cup and Papua New Guinea 2016 U20 Women's World Cup respectively.

Tanker rams into vehicles and bursts into flames on Nairobi highway, Kenya and kills 40 people ...photo

A tanker carrying inflammable substances rammed into several vehicles before bursting into flames near Karai on the Nairobi-Naivasha Highway, killing 40 people and injuring dozens on Saturday.
Witnesses at the scene said the driver of the tanker lost control while going downhill and hit the other vehicle which created chain of knocks. The accident on the busy highway, some 80 kilometres west of Nairobi created a horrible scene.

Two survivors of the accident have been admitted at the Nairobi hospital; one in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and while the other is said to be in stable condition.
Four victims were taken to the Naivasha Mt Longonot Medical Centre while two were treated and discharged. Two others, according to the Clinical Officer at the facility Dalmas Otumba, were taken to Nairobi hospital for specialised treatment.
According to a preliminary police report released on Sunday morning, the truck (registration number UAK 519C) hit a bump before its driver lost control and rammed into a vehicle in front and other vehicles before it burst into flames.
"The fire spread very fast burning 10 other vehicles. A General Service Unit (GSU) Land Cruiser registration number GK B 961G was also burnt, killing the officers on board. Most bodies were burnt beyond recognition," said the police report.
"At the scene, two containers of premium bond substance said to be highly flammable were recovered and suspected were among the items carried in the truck," added the report.
Transport PS Irungu Nyakera, while addressing the media on Sunday morning at the scene, said that nine police guns were also recovered and put the death toll at 40.
National Disaster Management Unit boss Pius Maasai has advised those who lost their loved ones to report at Naivasha Police station for assistance. According to him, most of the bodies can be identified and will be taken to Naivasha mortuary.
The Kenya Red Cross has set up an information desk at the Naivasha police station where relatives have been urged to report their missing ones for identificatified..

NTSA boss Francis Meja confirmed that 12 vehicles were burnt, adding that one was a PSV and the rest private. The matatu was carrying 14 passengers, who all perished.
Among the burnt vehicles was a pick-up truck carrying administration police officers that was heading to Nairobi. Three of them are among the dead. Eight magazines of the guns they were carrying were recovered.

Mr Edwin Wafula, a survivor who suffered burns on his hand, told the Nation he was travelling to Nairobi in the company of four other people when their car caught fire. The fire caught cars on both sides of the road. The truck was coming from Nairobi, but those heading to the city were also burnt,” he said at the scene.

Rescue workers from the Kenya Red Cross arrived at the scene moments later but they are having a hard time because there is a snarl-up. Mr Peter Njoroge said he had been trailing the truck in his car when it suddenly veered off its course to the lanes of oncoming vehicles. It exploded shortly afterwards.
"I was a distance away and that enabled me to slow down and reverse," he told the Nation. "It was a huge explosion and other motorists had little chance to escape."
