Cristiano Ronaldo wins the 2016 Ballon D'or award for the 4th time ...photo

Real Madrid and Portugal super star Cristiano Ronaldo had been crowned the world's best player for 2016 after he defeated rival Lionel Messi to clinch the Ballon D'or award for the fourth time in his very illustrious career.

The award crowns such a hardworking year for the Madeira native who helped Real Madrid win the UEFA champions league title and also helped his country, Portugal, to win a historic EURO 2016 cup, despite the huge odds against them.

The striker topped the poll of 173 journalists worldwide to take home France Football magazine's coveted award on Monday night held in Paris, France.

The player was not present in Paris to collect the award due to the Club World Cup which Reeal Madrid is currently participating in, in Japan.

Messi came second in the award while Antonie Griezmann of France/Atletico Madrid came third.
FIFA will hold its own award 'the Best' awards in January and Ronaldo is favorite to win that award also.

Congrats to Ronaldo! One of the greatest athletes of our time!

NCAA suspends 5 Pilots for testing positive to Marijuana

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, at the weekend suspended the medical certificates of five Cabin crews over drug-related offences.

The crew were said to have tested positive to marijuana during Drug Screening Test, MDST, that was conducted on participants of the Cabin Crew Training Basic Course – 30 (CCTB – 30 ) at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) Zaria, Kaduna State.

According to Sam Adurogboye, General Manager, Public Relations, NCAA, marijuana, is deemed under Part of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. NCARs) 2015 to be a psychoactive substance which made the defaulters disoriented and thereby violated Part (b) (2) (a) (ii) of the Nig. NCARs 2015.

He said “The five crew members (names withheld) tested positive to marijuana. Upon receipt of the test result from NCAT Zaria where they went for training before they get involved in flight duties, NCAA issued a letter of investigation (LOI) to the involved crew members and they responded."

Mr. Adurogboye added that: “The Authority accordingly considered their responses which were in writing after it had been duly established that they all tested positive to Tetra Hydro Cannabinol (THC – Marijuana).

“Consequent upon the findings, the defaulted crew members no longer meet the requirements for the issuance of a Cabin Crew licence. In the light of the above and in accordance with the provision of Part (f) (i) of the Nig. NCARs 2015, the Authority resolves as follows:

“Suspended their medical certificate for a period of 180 days from the date of receipt of NCAA letter to them. And Put on hold the processing of their initial cabin crew licence.

“They were requested to repeat the examination but will not be issued the cabin crew licence even if they pass the examination until they are successfully rehabilitated and re-issued medical certificate.

“NCAA has therefore mandated the suspended Cabin Crew members to undergo rehabilitation for psychoactive substance abuse under the strict supervision of a consultant psychiatrist at designated medical centres forthwith.

“At the end of the rehabilitation exercise, a report is expected to be forwarded in strict confidence by the medical centre to the Authority for consideration of re -issuance of their medical certificate in accordance with the provisions of Part (a) of the Nig. NCARs 2015.

“The Authority expects strict compliance by the suspended crew members without which their medical certificates would not be issued.”

Update! NFF pays just N100k each to Falcons out of outstanding Millions, girls still remain in hotel

Protesting players of the Nigerian senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons may have soft-pedalled on their decision to openly confront the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and the federal government over the non payment of bonuses and other allowances running into millions of naira after winning an unprecedented eight African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Cameroon a fortnight ago.

The African champions refused to vacate their hotel in Abuja, insisting they will remain there until they were paid their money. A visit to the hotel yesterday by Sports Vanguard showed that the girls who were hitherto eager to talk to the media concerning their plight were no where to be found as they stayed back in the rooms with a directive to the front desk staff that they do not want to talk to anybody.

However Vanguard’s checks further revealed that the latest action may have been informed by the fact that the NFF last Friday paid the sum of N100,000.00 naira to the bank account of each of the players. The money, reports informed, is part payment of their outstanding bonuses and allowances.

A reliable source at the NFF who pleaded anonymity told Sports Vanguard on phone that the money was paid with the hope that the protesting players will heed their plea to vacate the hotel, but that may not have been the case.

“I can confirm to you that last Friday, the NFF credited the sum of N100,000.00 to the account of each of the players as part payment of the unpaid backlog; and pleaded with them to vacate their hotel with a firm promise to pay the balance as soon as they get the money from the federal government.

“But I can equally tell you that the decision of the girls to remain adamant is because they claim that the Minister for Youth and Sports, Barr. Solomon Dalung who spoke to them last Thursday had promised to ensure they get all their entitlements, adding that he did not ask them to vacate their hotel.”

Vanguard’s source further revealed that it may be difficult for the players to accept a ‘mere’ N100, 000. 00 out of about $20,000 dollars which the players claim they are being owed, dating from their qualification entitlements.

Mother who faked her daughter's kidnap says she is sorry for the hurt she caused after turning to God ...photo

In 2008, Karen Matthews faked the kidnap of her 9yr old daughter in order to claim a huge chunk of reward money. She and an accomplice, Michael Donovan drugged and tethered Shannon under a divan bed in a compartment at flat one mile from where she lived as part of a desperate plot to claim £50,000 in reward money.

While the police launched a manhunt that cost the taxpayer £3.2million, Matthews was regularly seen on TV appearing distraught and in tears at the disappearance of her daughter. Her cover was blown when police discovered Shannon 24 days after her disappearance.

The mother of seven and her accomplice were jailed for eight years for kidnapping, false imprisonment and perverting the course of justice. After her release, she moved miles away from where she used to live and reports have it that she has totally turned a new leaf after turning to God in a bid to turn her life around.

It is reported that the 41-year-old has started to attend bible study sessions, has stopped drinking alcohol and prays every day. According to a friend who spoke to The Sun, the former convict said: 'I know I did something wrong but I’m not the baddest person people are making out. I am sorry for hurting people.

'I’ve hurt my family. My friends that supported me at the time, I’ve hurt them.'
Looks like she's making the most of her second chance.

Dubai Court of Appeal reduces drug smuggling sentence of 18-year-old Nigerian female singer

The Dubai Court of Appeal on Sunday, December 11th, reduced the life sentence for smuggling drugs handed to an 18-year-old Nigerian female singer who was mistaken for a 30-year-old, to four years.
"I am only 18 years old, your honour, and it was a friend of mine who asked me to carry a package but I had no idea what it was," the girl, who was not named told judges while kneeling before the court.

Dubai Criminal Court had sentenced her to life after prosecutors said she sold 1.91 grams of marijuana. Her age was listed as 30 on court documents.

Prosecutors said that on October 25 last year she tried to sell the drugs to a police source posing as a buyer. An Emirati police lieutenant said the source agreed to meet the suspect near a hospital in Abu Hail to buy marijuana for Dh300.

He said that about midnight she arrived in a taxi and got into the source’s car. Shortly after police raided the car and she was arrested.
Records stated she resisted arrest and tried to escape, but a policewoman pinned her down. She will be deported after serving her term.

Gov. Fayose asks Donald Trump to intervene for Rivers rerun

Image result for images of fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has described the Rivers National and State Houses of Assembly election rerun as disgraceful, asking the United States President-elect, Donald Trump, to quickly intervene in the affairs of Nigeria.

Fayose said this in a statement by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, on Sunday.

The governor said President Muhammadu Buhari had compromised the Independent National Electoral Commission and taken Nigeria backward.

The statement read in part, “He (Fayose) reiterated his call to the United States of America’s President-elect, Mr Donald Trump, to focus his attention more on Nigeria, with a view to saving the country from disintegrating, saying; ‘God forbid, if Nigeria disintegrates, the entire continent of Africa will disintegrate’’’.

Fayose described the elections as a sad reminder of the level of destruction already done to the country’s electoral process by the All Progressives Congress.

He added, “Free, fair and credible election is dead in the country and that whatever victory that is recorded by any political party in the Rivers State election will be nothing but victory at gunpoint.”

The governor lamented that it was worrisome that the legacy of free, fair and credible election left by the Peoples Democratic Party had been destroyed less than two years that the APC assumed power, saying; “We thought that we have gone past this era of manipulated electoral process after the 2015 general elections, which brought the APC and President Buhari to power, but the Buhari administration has taken us back to the stone age by merging his party, APC with INEC, the police, military and other security agencies.”

The governor said it was sad that snatching of ballot boxes, hijacking of voting materials and electoral violence which had become a thing of the past have now become part of our electoral process.

“It is even more worrisome that despite the fact that votes are counted openly at the polling units, voters are no longer sure of the results of elections until announcement by INEC, which has become an organ of the APC,” the governor said.
