RMD Tells Why He Joined the Sexy Beard Gang, and You Won’t Believe Why!

When Richard Mofe-Damijo (aka RMD) was first spotted with beard, many fans thought he had joined The Beard Gang, the exclusive crop of extremely cool folks who grow and groom their beards.
But his reasons for wearing a beard isn’t what we all have been thinking. According to the famous actor, the new signature look was born out of laziness; he hates to shave.
I hate to shave, so once I have an opportunity not to work, I let it grow,” he told Punch in a new interview.
I don’t keep it for the sake of grooming it. I just leave my beard because I don’t want to shave. I would say that shaving is about the most personal thing I hate to do and it is because I’d have to stop everything I am doing just to shave.”
He continued, “Ironically, it is one of the most therapeutic things for me. If I need to calm down fast, all I do is shave and that is simply because I have to be calm to shave. So it helps me as well. I keep a clean shaved head not because it is a brand identity but because I cannot keep an afro. Since my hair does not grow enough to become an afro, I just keep it clean.”
Huge surprise, we must say. But no matter, he already headlines this gang which includes Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly(COZA), Pastor Paul Adefarasin of the House on the Rock Church, and even singer Chuks ‘Lynxxx’ Edozien.
Check out some of RMD’s best 5 #BeardGang moments:
1.Being eternally young (at heart) comes with more perks than one. Apart from helping me better understand and relate with my children (biological and nonbiological), it makes the young people around me trust and open up to me more than they would if I came to them like "an old man" which suites me perfectly as the dynamics makes it easier for me to be an influence and make an impact in their lives, no matter how little. Honestly, being old has never really helped anyone which is why I coined the phrase "Who-Old-Epp?". Yep, I said it, not just because I can but because I have lived long enough to know that age doesn't equate wisdom. I have encountered many "old fools" and I have interacted with many young people who are wise beyond their years. Young people who are rounded and grounded in character, speech and carriage, those are my favourite type because as old as I am I learn from them which typically excites the teacher in me. This weekend, my dear friend Olusegun Adeniyi has invited me to talk to teenagers at a church event in Abuja and I am tickled in my spirit about these impressionable young men and women who I am about to encounter and positively rub off on in my own little way, so if you're a teenager in Abuja or have teenage friends and relatives please tell them to come through irrespective of religious affiliation, they can register FREE on rccgteapteens.org Wisdom no know age, sex, religion or social status.#GrowInWisdom #WhoOldEpp #OldIsTheNewYoung #lifeisastage2017 Foto by @uchejombo
2.Made in Nigeria never felt so good. In the strive for a better Nigeria I have had to look inwards to buying everything I need from clothes to accessories. For fashion, furniture and footwear I think it's safe to say we are almost there. Last year, the Mrs and I walked into this shop in Victoria Island, Lagos to buy a high back chair and was told 2.8m naira. Wifey who wanted the chair more than I did was the first to head for the door. I called up a furniture maker in Benin +2348035762040, enibos furnitures, that had built me a door a few years back and the result is this beautiful one I am sitting on and yea, it cost me way less than the one in the shop. Not to mention the the pretty sandals I am wearing by @amystunner another made in Nigeria product that compares with all that is out there. Respect to all those digging in to make us look better. Keep doing what you're doing and we will get there.  3.
