On Thursday, Police in the United Kingdom discovered a large cannabis factory after raiding a nuclear bunker. The value of the crop they recovered was estimated at over £1 million ($1.2 million).
Police in the county of Wiltshire say they arrested six people during a midnight raid on RGHQ Chilmark, an underground nuclear bunker built in the 1980s to protect government officials and local dignitaries in case of a nuclear attack.

While the site is no longer owned by the UK's Ministry of Defense, the bunker is intact and the nuclear blast doors remain in place. After receiving intelligence about the operation going on in the nearly impenetrable bunker, police said they waited outside for three people to leave and then detained them, using their keys to gain entry.
Inside, police said they found three more people, believed to be operating as gardeners along with several thousand cannabis plants at various stages of growth.
Detective Inspector Paul Franklin, of the Dedicated Crime Team said in a statement that
'there are approximately 20 rooms in the building, split over two floors, each 200 ft long and 70 feet wide. Almost every single room had been converted for the wholesale production of cannabis plants, and there was a large amount of evidence of previous crops. This was an enormous set up. At this early stage of the investigation it is almost impossible to work out how many plants are inside, but we are talking thousands rather than hundreds'.

Update! Nigerian students give South African companies 48 hours ultimatum to leave Nigeria over Xenophobic attacks

The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, have given all South African countries operating in Nigeria a 24 hours ultimatum to leave the country. This is in reaction to the xenophobic attacks meted out on Nigerians in South Africa.

NANS staged a peaceful protest on Thursday at some South African companies located in Abuja where they made their displeasure known and revealed that they will no longer be silent while Nigerians are attacked in South Africa whereas South African companies like MTN, DSTV and Shoprite are allowed to operate freely in Nigeria.

Speaking on behalf of the students, the president of NANS, Kadiri Aruna, said South African companies in Nigeria had only 48 hours to leave Nigerian soil, else Nigerian students will retaliate by pulling down all MTN masts in the country in the country. DSTV and Shoprite were also not left out in the threats.

Aruna said:
“I don’t want to say we will be barbaric but we will not be lawful in our actions, we will do it and face the consequences, enough of this rubbish.’’
Aruna went further to reminisce on how Nigeria was instrumental in freeing South Africans from apartheid and Nigeria contributed 80 per cent of the freedom the South Africans are enjoying today because we saved them from the jaws of apartheid and have over the years supported South Africa financially. He said it was time to take action and called on the Federal Government to step up and work towards evacuating Nigerians in South Africa. He also suggestion cutting diplomatic ties with the South Africans due to the silence of their government in the face of the attacks.
"The government of South Africa is criminally quiet and they say silence is consent, and their police are folding their hands while they are killing Nigerians, this is conspiracy, enough is enough,’’ he said.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) gives 48 hours ultimatum

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has given 48 hours ultimatum to all South African companies in Nigeria to relocate over the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
The students gave the ultimatum at a peaceful demonstration at some South African companies in Abuja on Thursday. During the march the students carried a banner, which read: ‘’NANS against Xenophobic Attacks on Nigerians.’’ While the students marched, the security men stood and watched to ensure law and order.
The President of NANS, Mr Kadiri Aruna, said in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at DSTV office, a South African company, in Wuse 2, Abuja, that Nigerian students had resolved to condemn the attacks.
“We are saying that enough is enough as South Africans have openly attacked and bullied Nigerians.’’ Aruna said that the protest would also serve as a warning to other countries trying to underrate Nigerians. He said that after 48 hours, if nothing was done, messages would be sent to students in all university campuses to bring down MTN masts all over the country.
Aruna said that DSTV and Shoprite would also be affected as the union had put adequate strategies in place to make the action effective. “All the South African business empires in Nigeria and their collaborators in Nigeria will be affected.
“I don’t want to say we will be barbaric but we will not be lawful in our actions, we will do it and face the consequences, enough of this rubbish,’’ he said. Aruna stressed that the poor treatment being meted out to Nigerians was particularly insulting given the role Nigeria played in ending the apartheid regime in South Africa.
“Nigeria contributed 80 per cent of the freedom the South Africans are enjoying today because we saved them from the jaws of apartheid. “Who is South Africa to humiliate Nigeria? So they forget things so soon, let them go back to history and records to see how much financial assistance and what the country did to save them,’’ he said.

HIV Patients 'Free Of Virus' Using Unusual Drug Cocktail To Flush Out Infection

Five HIV patients have been left free of the virus after using two vaccines for the virus and a drug normally used to treat cancer in a ground-breaking trial .

The patients have also been able to end using daily antiretroviral drugs to combat the virus, with one of the patients now free for seven months.

The IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute in Barcelona, Spain, has been examining the issue for the past three years, the New Scientist reports.

Twenty-four people recently diagnosed with HIV were given two vaccines developed by scientists at the University of Oxford as well as the antiretroviral drugs.

Fifteen patients were later given more of one of the vaccines as well as three doses of cancer drug romidepsin, which is said to flush "HIV out of hiding".

Another vaccine boost was given before the traditional drugs were stopped.

Ten patients began experiencing HIV again.

But five of them suppressed the virus and did not have to return to the aniretroviral drugs.

On top of the person free for seven months, the other four have been free for six, 14, 19 and 21 weeks.

The Institute is now investigating why it received the differing results after revealing the results at Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Seattle last week.

Danish man who burnt a Koran is the first in the country to be charged with blasphemy in 46 years

A 42yr old man from Denmark has been charged with blasphemy after he allegedly burned a copy of the Koran and posted a video of the incident on an anti-Muslim Facebook page. He posted the clip, entitled 'Consider your neighbour: it stinks when it burns' to a group called 'Yes to Freedom, No to Islam'.

The charge carries a sentence of imprisonment for up to four months or a fine. Prosecutor Jan Reckendorff said it was the first time since 1971 that a person was charged for 'publicly mocking a religious community's religious doctrines or worship.' Speaking from the public prosecutor's office, he said: 'It is the prosecution's view that circumstances involving the burning of holy books such as the Bible and the Quran can in some cases be a violation of the blasphemy clause, which covers public scorn or mockery of religion.

'It is our opinion that the circumstances of this case mean it should be prosecuted so the courts now have an opportunity to take a position on the matter.' In Denmark, publicly insulting or degrading religious books is punishable with imprisonment or fines under clause 140 of the country's penal code. The last time a prosecution was brought was in 1971 when two producers for Denmark Radio were arraigned after airing a song mocking Christianity. They were later acquitted.

Nigerians To start Paying Money On depositing And Withdrawal of money, The charges Will Shock You

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Thursday announced the reintroduction of bank charges on certain categories of cash deposits and withdrawals.
This came about three years after the apex bank stopped the charges.
In a circular to all Deposit Money Banks posted on its website, the regulator said the decision to reintroduce the charges on cash deposits was part of the review of charges on deposits and withdrawals under the cashless policy.
It said the decision was taken at the Bankers’ Committee meeting, which held in Abuja two weeks ago.
The circular, signed by the Director, Banking and Payments System Department, CBN, Mr. Dipo Fatokun, stated that the committee decided that the cashless policy should be extended to the remaining 30 states of the federation.
It also directed that with effect from April 1, 2017, banks in the states where the cashless policy was already operating, Lagos, Ogun, Anambra, Abia, Kano, Rivers and the Federal Capital Territory, would begin to impose charges on deposits and withdrawals above N500,000.
Banks will from that date begin to charge individuals 1.5 per cent and two per cent for deposits and withdrawals between N500,000 and N1m.
According to the circular, individuals depositing or withdrawing between N1m and N5m will be charged two per cent and three per cent, respectively.
For amounts above N5m, banks will charge such individuals three per cent and 7.5 per cent for deposits and withdrawals, respectively.
With regard to corporate customers, the CBN stated that deposits and withdrawals under N3m would not attract any charge, but that such customers depositing or withdrawing between N3m and N10m would be charged two per cent and five per cent, respectively.
Also for deposits and withdrawals between N10m and N40m, customers will be charged three per cent and 7.5 per cent, respectively. Deposits or withdrawals above N40m by corporate customers will attract a charge of five per cent and 10 per cent, respectively.
According to the CBN, the new policy on charges will be implemented in selected states on May 1 and August 1, this year; while the total implementation will be concluded on October 1.
The regulator noted that the committee agreed that income generated from the processing fees above the allowable cash limits would be shared between it and the banks in the ratio of 40:60.
However, the CBN said that existing exemptions to the policy such as revenue generating agencies of the federal, state and local governments (for lodgements) will be sustained. Also exempt from the processing fees are embassies, diplomatic missions, multilateral and aid agencies.
The CBN directed lenders to train their employees to enlighten customers on the new policy.

Senate have mandated Police To Flush Prostitutes, Beggars From The Streets of Abuja

It has been revealed that prostitutes and beggars have taken over the streets of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The Senate Thursday said that it has mandated the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Commissioner and Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to flush out beggars, hoodlums and commercial s*x workers, from the streets of the FCT.
Chairman, Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Dino Melaye, stated this at a media briefing in Abuja.
According to Melaye, his committee had invited the police commissioner and NSCDC commandant to inform them about the worsening insecurity in the FCT and the need to take steps to curb the trend.
He said, “Last week we summoned the commissioner of police FCT and the commandant of NSCDC because as a committee and the Senate we are appalled with the security situation in Abuja.
“We are also very uncomfortable with the number of hoodlums on the streets of Abuja. We have beggars, destitute, commercial sex workers spread across every nook and cranny of the city and we have given a marching order to the commissioner of police and the commandment of NSCDC to clear them.
“We have also instructed the FCT to provide logistics for the immediate evacuation of all dissidents, beggars including those little boys who claim they are helping you to clean your glass but add aditional dents to your cars.”
The legislator noted that the committee also invited Managing Directors of banks operating in the Federal Capital city and 15 banks attended.
He said, “We discovered that despite the fact that hundreds of millions spent from budgetary provisions of FCT annually paid to contractors for the maintenance of street lights and the maintenance of all the streets and environment of Abuja is not yielding any positive results.
Dino Melaye
“So, the committee decided to invite these banks and in line with their corporate social responsibility to the FCT, their host community that we are going to share all the major streets in Abuja to banks.
“These banks will now do the maintenance of street lights and be responsible for the environmental sanitation of all the streets, beautification of roundabouts where you have them and by so doing they will also have the logo of their companies or their brands advertised on the street lights.
“This is not a new trend across the globe and we want to believe that this will check wastage and it will also help to block leakages.
“The several millions paid to contractors for the maintenance of street lights and keeping the environment tidy and clean will be saved and this can now go to the development of satellite towns and provisions of infrastructural facilities in the suburbs of Abuja.
“Since we are in recession, we discovered that we must think outside the box. Not only banks even other corporate organisations in Abuja have decided and we have 18 corporate organisations that have accepted to work with us in this regard alongside 15 banks.
“In fact some of the companies that are into land swap business in Abuja have agreed.”

Radio Bayelsa GM Flogs Four Officials... A Man And Three Ladies

Industrial dispute at Radio Bayelsa, christened Glory FM, has distorted its operation as the General Manager, John Idumange, flogged four staffs on duty, however some report had said the staffers were whipped by suspected thugs.

Radio Bayelsa Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Radio Television and Theatre Arts Workers Unions (RATTAWU) consequently shut the radio station.

Briefing newsmen on Thursday in Yenogoa, NUJ Chairman in Radio Bayelsa, Tonye Yemoleigha, said that he and three female staff were caned by the General Manager of the Station.

Four of us, myself and three female staff were flogged by Idumange himself. The report that it was thugs is inaccurate. It was the General Manager himself. The blisters on the skin are more severe for the ladies.

“We have reported the matter to the Ekeki Police Division and sought medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa. Workers have been constantly intimidated and threatened.

“John Angese, Bayelsa Council Chairman of NUJ who is a staff of Radio Bayelsa has also been threatened with a sack, we are all being victimized for insisting that the General Manager complies with Public Service rules.

“We have been under siege since the General Manager was appointed in December 2016. We are not opposed to repositioning the station which is in our interest but we want the procedure to follow due process,” Yemoleigha said.

He added that workers of the station are not opposed to staff redeployment, but the unions should also be part of the process to ensure that the best hands are not sacrificed on the altar of nepotism, sentiment or witch-hunt.

“We are also aware of the alleged over N5 million naira payroll fraud which Idumange claimed to have uncovered and has referred to the Police for investigation.

“Ordinarily, in line with established procedures, an Investigative Panel should have been instituted to look into the matter and come up with a report with which management would act as appropriate.

“All these are expressly spelt out in the Public Service Rules; however, we are requesting for a copy of the police report after their investigation.

“We have asked management to properly discipline everyone involved in an established case of running the salary of a staff who resigned with effect from August 2016,” he explained.

Idumange, however, dismissed the allegations that he flogged staffs of the station, saying that the unions were being used to sabotage his efforts at re-positioning the station which was in a deplorable state before his appointment.

According to him, there was no going back on his reform efforts as they have received the blessings of the supervising Bayelsa Ministry of Information.

This small radio station has 346 workers; employment and job placement have never followed due process, we are currently reorganizing the place and they are resisting our efforts.

“Those ghost workers must be fished out and the payroll cleaned up. The wage bill of the station is N35 million monthly and it is not sustainable. My predecessor incurred a debt of N40 million.

“The unions are being instigated by the Heads of Department affected in the illegal recruitment, and those who came into that place through the back door,” he said.

Top Redeemed Church Pastor In A N9m Fraud Saga

A minister with Redeemed Christian Church of God, Ikosi-Ketu, Pastor Jamiu Ishola Kolawole has been arrested and charged before a Lagos court for allegedly defrauded one of his tenants, Dr Emeka Ugwunze to the tune of N9 million in Lagos.

The incident happened at 2 Gbagada Road, Gbagada, Lagos where Ugwunze rented an apartment on a two-storey building owned by Kolawole.

The defendant is now facing Criminal charge of obtaining money under false pretence and stealing before Isolo Magistrate’s court presided by Mrs O.A. Adedayo.

57-year old Pastor Kolawole, who was once deported from abroad, approached his tenant, Dr Ugwunze and asked him to pay seven years rent arrears because he was facing financial challenges due to his deportation.

According to PM Express, about one month later, he approached Ugwunze again and informed him that he had hectares of land in his Ikorodu hometown and he needed money to perfect the land documentation so that he would sell part of the land and use the rest to build houses on the remaining.

Kolawole then told his tenant that he wanted to sell his two-storey building, and use the money to process the Ikorodu land document at the Lagos State Land Bureau .

He explained to the victim that he did not want to sell the house to another person because he had assisted him in the past.

And to prove how serious and commited, Pastor Kolawole handed over to Ugwunze all the house documents to prove to him he actually wanted to sell the house.

During the court proceedings, Kolawole admitted that Ugwunze paid him the total sum of N9 million out of the N20 million they agreed with further agreement that he would pay the balance at a further date.

After obtaining the initial money, he disappeared and refused to sign deed of transfer to Ugwunze.

When it was time to balance him the remaining N11 million, Pastor Kolawole said he had changed his mind as his family advised him against selling the house.

When Ugwunze requested that the suspect should refund the initial N9 million paid to him, it was then he allegedly started dribbling Ugwunze for almost seven years now.

The scam was reported to the Special Fraud Unit and Kolawole was arrested and charged to court.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect the bail condition.

During the trial, Kolawole admitted that he actually obtained the money and wanted to sell the house but reneged when Ugwunze defaulted by not paying the balance.

He also told the court that he actually handed the house documents and was unable to return the litigant’s money because he took him to court.

The matter was adjourned till April 11, for cross examination and continuation of trial.

Sango Traders Storm Amosun's Office Over Customs' Raid

Scores of the Sango-Ota rice sellers, whose shops were allegedly raided by men of the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operation Unit, Ikeja, Lagos on Wednesday, stormed the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, yesterday, to continue their protest over the invasion of their market.

The rice sellers led by their coordinator, Alhaja Wakilat Salako, took their protest to the Governor’s Office, chanting songs and carrying placards bearing inscriptions like ‘Customs bring back our rice,’  ‘Our rights are being trampled upon by Customs officers of FOU, Ikeja’ among others.

The traders had on Wednesday barricaded the Sango-Ota axis of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway for more than 12 hours, to protest what they termed high-handedness by the Customs operatives

The protesters stormed the office around 8.00am and began another round of protest. They said, the FOU team, led by one Jude, stormed the rice market in the midnight of Tuesday and broke over 60 shops to cart away hundreds of bags of rice and kegs of vegetable oil in 15 trucks.

However, the traders recanted that the number of bags of rice taken away  were 4,200 as against 18,000 bags they claimed on Wednesday, while 478 kegs of vegetable oil were taken.

Salako said: “After the Area Commander, and the Divisional Police Officer calmed us down Wednesday, they told us to go back to the market and take proper inventory of our goods confiscated by the Customs operatives, and we later discovered that it was not 18,000 bags but 4, 200.

“But we are here this morning to tell the governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, to help us retrieve the 4,200 bags of rice and 478 kegs of vegetable oil from the Federal Operation Unit, Ikeja, Lagos.”

Attempt by the Chief of Staff to the governor, Tolu Odebiyi to placate the angry traders failed as his one-hour address to the protesters did not yield fruitful results. Odebiyi had described the development as sad and urged the traders to be calm. He added that the state government will look into the matter to determine what actually happened.

The protesters, not satisfied with the submission of the Chief of Staff, blocked the main gate to the Office of the Governor and demanded to see him in person. They also stripped half-naked and disrupted traffic flow for over two hours, after which the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, came to address them. The government however, gave them  an option to present six representatives to hold a closed-door meeting with the governor which they agreed to.

The governor, who held a closed-meeting with  the traders representatives said he had started the intervention process since the day of the incident. The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, emerged from the meeting at exactly 3.02pm and related the governor’s message to the traders who had laid siege to the entrance to his office. According to Ashiru, Governor Ibikunle Amosun had since the incidence on Wednesday, approached the Customs headquarters in Abuja. He urged the protesters to exercise patience assuring them that government would investigate the matter thoroughly.

Omg! 12-year old Nigerian girl gang raped and strangled in Ghana

A 12-year-old Nigerian girl has been strangled to death after being gang-raped by a group of men in Ghana. The girl who is a class five pupil had been on her way to her parent's shop after closing from school on Tuesday when she was attacked at Ggblo-Kpalsi, a suburb of Tamale in Ghana.
She was dragged by her attackers into an abandoned building where she was assaulted and strangled with a scarf after which her abductors fled.
Locals reported that they heard loud screams within the area and called the police but by the time the authorities arrived, only the lifeless body of the girl was found. A brightly coloured scarf, believed to be the murder weapon, was seen wrapped tightly around her neck.
Outgoing Police Public Relations Officer ASP Ebenezer Tetteh confirmed the incident to newsmen in Ghana, saying;
“The information first came as a robbery incident so police quickly dispatched a team to Ggblo Kpalsi. Police arrived at the scene timeously and we met some eye witnesses at the said suburb of Tamale but it turned out to be a homicide scene; because a 12-year-old girl was gang raped and later strangled to death.
The body was taken to the Tamale Teaching Hospital where a post-mortem was conducted to reveal blood and semen on the victim's private part. Samples of the semen have been taken for tests to help find the culprits.
The police suspect the death was either a contract killing or an attempt to hide their identity and have begun a manhunt to locate the criminals.
ASP Tetteh said;
“So far we have not arrested any suspect but we are suspecting that is either a contract killing or the parents of this particular young lady might had problems with somebody and the person wanted to extend their anger on this young innocent girl or the third scenario could be that during the act she might have identified some of these suspects and just to cover up they decided to strangle her to death."
