Esabod conversion with the Gov and the speaker of the Oyo State house this morning. Gov Isiaka Ajimobi is a pleasant man to dialogue with. I asked several questions about the situation in Ibadan. My 1st Question. Worker's salaries, he agreed and promised to sort it out.
The money, according to the governor, was to enable his administration to settle pension arrears and unpaid workers' salaries, which he puts at N46.6BN . The Governor of Oyo State, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi has said the recent bailout funds given to the state by the federal government, would not be enough to cover the total outstanding salaries owed to state workers.This week, we should be able to access the Federal Government bailout of N26.6bn. Local Government workers will get N9.3bn from the sum while the state government workers will get the remaining N17.3bn. As of today, we owe the state workers N21.3bn but all we could get from the bailout is N17.3bn. So if we get the money today, we will still have to look for more money to balance the account so that all the debt can be paid,” the governor said.
He said the State gets N3bn on the average as federal allocation and also generates about N1.2bn internally but the drop in oil prices has seen the allocation coming from Abuja drop drastically, a situation that has made payment of salaries very difficult for the state government.
