A 30-year-old Nigerian-born American police officer was recently killed in the line of duty

While responding to a non-emergency call in the city of Pearland, Texas, USA on June 12, Nigerian born Endy Nddiobong Ekpanya met his tragic death at the hands of a drunk driver. Thedriver later identified as Amber Willemsen, ran into Endy at an intersection, causing major damage to both of their vehicles and trapping Endy inside his car. He was later airlifted to a hospital where he died from the fatal injuries he sustained.

In a statement released on the Pearland police department’sfacebook page, here’s what they said: “On June 12, 2016 at approximately 0315 hours the Pearland Police Department was notified of a major accident involving a Pearland Police vehicle at the intersection of 2500 E. Broadway and Liberty. Officers arrived and found two vehicles involved in a catastrophic crash. The marked Pearland Police vehicle sustained major damage and the officer was pinned inside.

Pearland Fire extracted the officer and he was then airlifted to Memorial Herman Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Officer Endy Ekpanya had been with the department since 2015. The second party involved in the crash was also transported to Memorial Herman with non-life threatening injuries.
