Police parade two suspected street light vandals.. photos

The Abia state Commissioner of Police (CP), Leye Oyebade has warned criminals operating in the state to relocate from the state as the
command under his leadership has strategized to flush them out from the state.

Speaking in Umuahia, while parading two suspects, who were arrested for vandalizing and stealing of solar energy batteries that are used to power street lights at Ndoki in Ukwa East council area, Oyebade said that it is time for criminals to leave the state.

Oyebade said that the men being paraded are economic saboteurs of the state and the country, stressing that they are in the same category with those who specialises in vandalizing oil pipe lines across the country.

He frowned at the situation where criminals vandalize government property and turn around to say that government is not doing anything for the state and its people, “When they are the ones destroying government properties for their own selfish ends.”

The Abia CP said, “My men arrested Chima Chiboo aged 34 years who specializes in the stealing of solar energy batteries at Ndoki in Ukwa East council area of the state”.

“He was arrested by Kingsley Ekeke a member of the local vigilante group in the area while on duty and handed over to the police and when he was interrogated by the police, he could not give a satisfactory answer to how he came about the two solar batteries in his position”.

“The suspect was handed over to my men at the Police at Akwete Division and the boss of the division later transferred the to the State Criminal Intelligence and investigation department for further investigation”.

Oyebade said that the second suspect Chinasa Okochi of Urrata village in Aba was arrested at Akwete with two solar energy batteries, “Which under interrogation the suspect could not give account of the batteries”.

The CP said that the police in the state can no longer stand and watch criminals destroy the state with their nefarious activities, stressing that those who have formed the habit of destroying government property must be brought to book.
