Shockwaves are reverberating across Yorùbáland and the global Yorùbá diaspora following the sudden death of the Baba Ọba (King’s Father) of the famed Oyotunji African Village in South Carolina, USA. The late Baba Ọba, Lukman Arohunfale, a revered socialite and traditionalist, passed away under circumstances already sparking fierce controversy. His death comes just days after he publicly accused the newly installed Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Akeem Adéyẹmọ Owoade, of allegedly ordering his courtiers to beat him mercilessly during a recent courtesy visit to the Oyo palace in Nigeria. In a widely circulated voice recording, the deceased recounted how what was meant to be a simple homage turned violent. Dr Nanival, in green scrubs, is heard telling Tank in blue scrubs, “Arey kis galatfehmi me ho, salta dunga toh… (what delusion are you in, I’ll have you ‘taken care’ of).” As the argument continues, Tank is heard saying, “Tu apni aukat me reh (you stay within your limits),” as other doctors try to calm them both.
“Dr Nanival’s services have been terminated, while Dr Tank has been transferred to another hospital.
The preganant woman whom they were operating on during the argument and her child are said to be in good condition.
However, another preganant lady who was being operated on in this thearter lost her baby. The Chief Medical and Health Officer (CHMO) Choudhary said the argument had nothing to do with the death of the woman
“The woman, whose baby died, had already been operated upon 2-3 hours before the said video,” he said.
