Former President Goodluck Jonathan's house burgled (photo)

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has released a statement thanking Nigerians for showing concern to him shortly after it was reported that one of his Abuja homes have been burgled. The statement was released via  his spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze. It reads thus;

“Following series of enquiries from journalists and other concerned Nigerians on the extent of the reported vandalisation and theft in the house of former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan located in Gwarimpa, Abuja, we, therefore, would like to make the following clarifications:

The theft was discovered last month upon which a report was duly lodged with the relevant police authorities.

“The police immediately commenced investigations which led to the arrest and detention of some suspects, six of whom were policemen, even as investigations continue.

“The house, which the former President bought from CITEC estate developers in 2004, was totally stripped bare by the thieves who stole every movable item in the house, including furniture sets, beds, electronics, toilet and electrical fittings, as well as all internal doors and frames.

“However, contrary to exaggerated reports in some media, only six television sets, three refrigerators and one gas cooker were stolen. Being that the house is a modest, a 4-bedroom duplex, it couldn’t have been fitted with “36 Plasma television sets and about 25 refrigerators” as falsely reported by some media outfits.

“We thank all Nigerians for their show of concern and wish to convey the former President’s goodwill to all Nigerians.”

Nigerian married father of five caught for killing his girlfriend in Lagos

Police have arrested one Victor Umeh who killed his girlfriend, Happiness after he saw her talking to her ex-boyfriend in the Okota area of Lagos.

It was gathered that the suspect, a married man with five children and trader at Ladipo Market hosted a birthday party for Happiness in a hotel along Ago-Palace Way, Lagos on Saturday, July 29. As the party was going on, Victor saw her conversing with her former boyfriend and left in anger.

A quarrel ensued after Happiness returned to Victor's house located at 5/7 Michael Osisipi Street, off Banjo Oyewele Street, Ago Palace Way. Her shout for help alerted neighbours, including a gateman, identified simply as Adamu.

The neighbours were said to have searched the flat for the victim, only to discover her lifeless body behind Umeh’s window.

“We heard them quarreling, but we thought it was a normal verbal war, until we did not hear Happiness. We decided to find out what was happening, only to meet the lifeless body of Happiness," a neighbour said.

“When Victor saw us, he tried to escape, but we held him and quickly alerted the police from Ago-Okota Division, who came to the scene and arrested him.”
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ago-Okota Police Station, Mr. Yusuf Abdul, who confirmed the incident said that Umeh was arrested from where he was transferred to the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department, SCIID.

"Around 12 midnight, one Osuh came and reported that they heard loud screaming coming from his neighbour’s apartment. He said when he came out to find out what was going on, in company with others, they saw the lifeless body of Happiness whose address and surname are unknown.
“We arrested one Victor, whom the deceased visited, as he was trying to escape. In a bid to frustrate investigation, the suspects hid the deceased’s phone on top of a fence after inserting it inside a packet of cigarettes that contained Indian hemp.

“During interrogation, the suspect told us that they went to a club along Ago-Palace Way to celebrate the deceased’s birthday but when they got there the deceased started talking with her ex-boyfriend and he left in anger for his house. Shortly after he got home, the deceased came to meet him and they had a fight that led to her death."
Happiness’ body has been deposited at Isolo General Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the suspect denied killing her, adding that he did not know how her corpse found its way behind his window.

"I did not kill her. Someone else did because, I met her lifeless body outside my house."
He admitted to have met her last Wednesday at Cele Bus Stop, from where he brought her home.
According to Vanguard investigation, Happiness is said to be from Plateau State. Umeh’s wife and five children travelled to his village in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State. Immediately after the incident, the suspect contacted his wife to come to Lagos and move his property to the village.

"Our gateman allowed her inside that night because she was seen with Victor the previous day. The gateman was first alerted by the shout for help and by the time he got close to the window, he saw somebody running" said one of the neighbours, who spoke with Vanguard.
"Her desperate shout for help was intensive, but with time it became faint until it stopped. He tried to escape and hide the deceased phone on a fence so as to make it difficult for the Police to trace her death to him. If he had succeeded we would have been in trouble.” he added.

Omg! See how Nigerian woman sustained and died from an incident in Airtel Office in Lagos

On Thursday the 29th of December, 2016, Late Chika Alex-Etuk was like any other Nigerian. On that fateful morning her intentions was to visit Airtel office at 11, Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, Surulere, Lagos State to obtain and register a new Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) for her phone and to take her 2 children ages 6 and 7 years with her friend who came on a visit from South Africa for shopping at a local shoprite mall Surulere.

At around 1pm Nigeria time, Chika was in Airtel premise and she was asked to fill out a form by Airtel staff which she did, immediately she was usher by one of the Airtel staff to stay in a position to take a photograph which was one of the requirements for the SIM registration.

As she stepped to area directed by the staff, the tiled floor on the spot where she stood caved in, Chika fell into a sinkhole and her left leg got stuck there up to her knee.

She sustained multiple lacerations to her lower leg, cuts around her thigh and went into shock from the severe pain and loss of blood. Her children where traumatized by the incident which has now affected them mentally and physically.

Her Children were not shielded from the scene, they watched in horror as a chunk of their mothers flesh laid on the ground while she yelled out, for hours, in pain. The first son now (age cool has developed breathing problem, he is not able to sleep well, while the second son (age 6) is always in and out of hospital, not able to communicate or play with other children.

The incident plus the death of their mother has left the two boys severely traumatized, especial the six year old son who is always afraid to sleep at night because  he wakes up sweating, screaming and calling out for the mum (with tears) to come back home.

When one of our correspondence visited the family, the deceased six (6) years old son said he told the mother not to go out on that particular day.

As we gathered that the response of Airtel was practically non-existent when the accident occured. They all first ran out of the building  according to on lookers, few minutes Later they came back sporadically, they just stood there and watched she laid in pain – some even ran away without looking back.

Eventually, the late Mrs Chika Alex Etuk was taken to a near by hospital by her friend and other sympathisers where she was refused treatment because they could not handle the severity of the bleeding and injuries. She was immediately rushed to St. Claire’s Hospital in Surulere, Lagos – the staff of Airtel Network did not make any attempt to rush her to a hospital or offer help in any way.

She was later admitted to the Emergency Ward of National Orthopaedic Hospital Igbobi, Lagos state, after a long stay in pain and agony at Orthopaedic hospital, she later died on the 30th of January, 2017 after a surgery was carried out on her leg as a result of the injury she suffered in Airtel’s property, due to their instructions.

The incidents that took Place in the premises of Airtel Network, which lead to the death of late Mrs Etuk, were preventable if not for the gross negligence of Airtel Network and their lack of human empathy. This was corporate manslaughter.

To rob salt to the injury, Airtel Limited offered Three Million naira (£7000 pounds) to Late Chika’s family as compensation so that the news will not go public. Mrs Chika Etuk was the bread winner of her family, which Airtel Limited was made aware but they choose to make a mockery of her death knowing so many people who depended on her including her two young handsome boys and aged mother.

The Fourty three (43) years Late Mrs Chika Alex Etuk was a member of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), a chucrh worker in the We Care Ministy department of trem, a faithful wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter, aunty, a giver and true christian.

We learnt that Airtel Network do not take reasonable duty of care to make sure their customers are safe when they visit their premises.

Airtel Limited, we gathered, has done nothing but offer empty words of fake condolence in a series of letters in order to prevent a law suit.

Now two children of the ages 6 and 8 are left without a mother because of their callousness.

They further insulted the family by offering them THREE MILLION NAIRA ONLY (£7000) to cover up the story, even though Airtel is a multi billion dollar company.

Update! Bola Tinubu - I Didn't Acquire A New Plane

All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has denied reports claiming he just acquired a new plane, describing it has FALSE.
In a statement issued today in Lagos and signed by his Special Assistant, Mr. Ademola Oshodi, Tinubu lambasted THISDAY for the report. The full statement below...

“The THISDAY story of Sunday, July 23, 2017 claiming Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has recently purchased a new airplane is symptomatic of what happens when a publication divorces itself from any pretence of objective and impartial reportage. This is what happens when a newspaper becomes a mercenary tool for partisan designs. THISDAY has a partisan axe to grind and it seeks to grind that axe against someone like Asiwaju Bola Tinubu because that is what the paymasters of THISDAY demand of it.

“So eager to be seen as loyal to the whims of its paymasters, THISDAY stands disloyal to the very truth it professes to publish. Rather than practise journalism, this publication now specializes in peddling rumour and manufacturing fake scandal. One of the paper’s favourite excursions into fiction is to publish any and all things false about Bola Tinubu. Why THISDAY has such animus against Tinubu only the paper can answer. That such irrational hatred exists cannot be controverted

“THISDAY published a story that Tinubu purchased a new plane. The story was replete with pictures as if to authenticate the report. There is only one slight problem. The story is false and the pictures are doctored.

“Asiwaju Tinubu has not purchased a new plane.  He is currently using the same plane he has used for over a decade now. This is the same plane that was used during the elections of 2011 and more recently in 2015 to help the APC campaign to victory, much to the everlasting chagrin of THISDAY and those whose wishes it caters to. If THISDAY would have done even a cursory check of the photos it published it would have noticed the pictures reveal spaces with different interiors. They would have easily seen Tinubu’s picture was super-imposed onto a space he has not been.

“This is sensational, shoddy and false. In the rush to embarrass Tinubu, THISDAY bares itself as a mill of rumour and falsehood.  It is THISDAY that should be embarrassed not Tinubu. Had THISDAY done any investigation at all and had it even a brief acquaintance with the truth and the etiquette of proper journalism, it would not have published the false report.

“To clear the record, Tinubu has not bought a new plane. A simple investigation would have revealed the correct situation. But these merchants of fake news are more interested in attacking perceived enemies than in enlightening the public as should be the call of a newspaper.

“This is journalism that is not journalism. We send this message in hope that THISDAY will find some respect for the norms of the profession it claims to practice. While this hope is probably too optimistic given the newspaper’s track record, we shall continue to pray and hope that they turn to the truth and quit their romance with blatant rumour and outright falsity”.

US Financier Claims Russian President Is The Richest Man In The World

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates were metaphorically sparring for the title of world’s richest individual last week, but the true leader might actually be Vladimir Putin.

Bill Browder, a US financier, reportedly told senators last week that the Russian President is richer than both Mr Bezos and Mr Gates combined.

According to Newsweek, the chief executive officer of Hermitage Capital Management said that he thinks Mr Putin is worth $200bn.

Newsweek said that Mr Browder’s company was once the largest portfolio investor in Russia and that Mr Browder was a shareholder in Gazprom, Surgutneftegas and other Russian state-run enterprises in the 1990s.

Around that time Putin reportedly made a deal with Russian businessmen that made him the “richest man in the world”.

Mr Putin’s personal fortune has been the subject of intense debate and speculation.

Newsweek reports that, according to Mr Putin's official asset form – a mandatory public disclosure for all Russian government officials – he earns $133,000 a year and has a modest apartment in Moscow.

Last week Mr Bezos briefly became the world’s richest person as a result of a surge in Amazon’s share price ahead of the e-retail giant’s quarterly earnings report. Shares later tailed off again, however, putting Mr Gates back in the top spot. Mr Bezos owns around 17 per cent of Amazon’s shares.

Both Mr Bezos and Mr Gates are worth more than $90bn according to Bloomberg data, with the latter occupying the top spot since 2013.

Bukola Saraki - I’ve Stopped Collecting Pension In Kwara

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...
The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, said he had stopped collecting pension in Kwara State as a former governor of the state.

Saraki, who said this during the News Agency of Nigeria Forum in Abuja yesterday, declared that he had written a letter to the state government to stop the payment of the pension.

According to Saraki, the move was sequel to complaints from some quarters that former governors, who are currently senators or ministers, were receiving pension and salary in their new jobs, all from the government.

A civil society organisation, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, had accused the former governors of receiving double pay from government, and said it was illegal.

“No, I’m not collecting pension; the moment I saw that allegation, I wrote to my state to stop my pension.

“So, I speak for myself on that part; I’m not doing that, I am not receiving pension from my state,’’ he said.

On other senators still collecting pensions from their state, Saraki said, “I think I will leave everybody to their individual decision. Morally, if you have got another job, you should give it up until when you are truly a pensioner.

“Some of these oversights are not addressing the issues. What the states should do is to go and amend their laws to say that if you have another appointment then you are not entitled to that benefit. With this, we will just simplify the matter.”

No ID Number, No Passport From 2018 - National Immigration Service

The Nigeria Immigration Service says from January 1, 2018, anybody without the National Identification Number, issued by the National Identity Management Commission, will not be able to procure Nigerian passport.
It added that the condition applied to both first-time applicants and those renewing their expired document.

The Comptroller-General of the NIS, Mr. Mohammed Babandede, disclosed this to State House correspondents after a meeting of database harmonisation committee at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, yesterday.

Babandede said the decision was taken as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to ease the process of doing business in the country.
He said thenceforth, there would be no need for individuals to have their biometrics captured by the NIS and NIMC separately.

He said, “The biggest problem we are facing is that everybody is deploying his own technology; but harmonisation of data will solve that. We have agreed that from January 1, 2018, anybody who is going to apply for the Nigerian passport, whether renewal or fresh application, must first have a National Identity Number.

“Why we are doing this is that we want to ease process of doing business in Nigeria. There is no need for you to go and have your biometrics captured by the NIMC and then you come and capture again with the Nigeria Immigration Service.

“Once you give us your NIN, we will collect the biometrics from the NIMC and produce your passport.”

Babandede said he had directed that permits of foreigners resident in Nigeria should not be renewed without the NIN.

To achieve this, the NIS boss said identification numbers and passport numbers would be harmonised.

“The NIMC workers can work in our passport office. So, when you come to get your passport, you can also get the national identity card.

Veteran Yoruba Actress, Kudirat Odukanmi Eluyemi otherwise known as Iyabo Oko has just revealed that she has been seriously ill with a strange ailment which has since been diagnosed to be Stroke since June 2016.

In a recent interview with City People, the veteran actress narrates her ordeal saying, 'I thank God almighty for sparing my life till this moment. The devil tried his best but God showed him that He is truly Alfa and Omega. What happened was that, that very day, after I woke up from my sleep very early in the morning and I attempted to talk, I just found out that I couldn’t talk any longer and I was told it was a partial stroke. I was taken to a hospital and I was treated, the doctors really tried their best. The hospital is called 68 Military Hospital, Yaba, Lagos'.

She continued to say, 'they tried their best but I couldn’t just talk for months but I still give glory to God that I can now talk properly. The funny thing is that, I was not paralyzed; my legs and hands were effective, just that I couldn’t talk. I first spent 2 weeks at the hospital and when I got home, it started again and I returned to the hospital. I visited the hospital like 3 times. Kemi Afolabi and Sikiratu Sindodo even saw me because she brought her grandma to the same hospital.

Kemi was weeping when she saw me, she took good care of me and she also gave me money. She also said I shouldn’t drown myself in excessive thinking because many have suffered the same ailment and they are nowhere to be found today. After many trials at the hospital, I could still not talk, I was discharged and my son came back from abroad, he rushed me to UK and I spent like one  month.'

'I was at home but doctors were coming to treat me. He employed a therapist and after a month, I started talking and my son finally took me to India where everything was perfected. I spent 7months in India receiving treatment at home. I give glory to God almighty that I am now okay. I do exercises frequently, I go out and I do all things, the only difference you will notice about me now is that I am not as agile as I used to be. I have lost a lot of weight and I love it like that because I now keep fit. I was so scared during those trying periods because there were several bad news coming  from the industry. You hear different stories about Nollywood stars which were adding more  to the illness I was already suffering from. But thank God, Jesus conquered for me'.

Shocking! Prisoners used peanut butter to escape from jail (photo)

12 inmates escaped from a prison in Alabama over the weekend by using peanut butter to trick the staffer into opening an alternate door. The inmates were serving time in the Walker County Jail in Jasper, Alabama when they hatched a plan to escape. A recently hired staff was on duty when they took advantage of his lack of experience and carried out their plot.

The staff was in the control room keeping track of 150 inmates when they asked to have a door opened. What the staffer did not know was that the inmates had used peanut butter from jailhouse sandwiches to change the number over the door.
Walker County Sheriff James Underwood confirmed the incident at a news conference on Monday afternoon.

Underwood said: "They had changed the number over the door with peanut butter, they hollered, 'hey, open the door...,' but that door number was the outside door, and unbeknowingly to him, he hit that lock and out the door they went,"
Underwood said during the escape the inmates threw blankets over a razor wire fence so they could climb over. Two of the inmates were hurt while fleeing the jail, and one is in the hospital. 11 of the 12 inmates have since been caught, including the two most serious offenders, the sheriff said.

Brady Andrew Kilpatrick, 24, is still at large after breaking out of the jail in Jasper. Kilpatrick was in jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, authorities said.
Underwood added: "We’ve got some evil people down here. And they scheme all the time to con us and our employees here at the jail. You have to stay on your toes. This is one time we slipped up. I'm never going to make any excuses -- it was a human error that caused this to happen."
