Car wash attendant sells client’s car, spends proceeds on wedding lailasnewsThe Police in Abuja has arrested a 29-year-old car wash attendant identified as Mohammed Chado, for reportedly selling a year 2000 model of Toyota Camry that a client brought to him to wash.The Commissioner of police, Federal Capital Territory, Sadiq Bello who paraded the suspect before newsmen, said the suspect who works at a car wash outlet in Apo, Abuja, allegedly made away with the car and sold it for N450,000, which he reportedly used to marry a wife.

“Chado was arrested at Batafe village in Niger State where he was hiding after he sold a Toyota Camry 2000 model that was given to him for washing.
“He escaped with it, sold it for N450,000 and used the money to marry a wife. The stolen car has been recovered” the Police Boss said.
Confessing to the crime, the car wash attendant disclosed that he spent N300,000 on his wedding and expended the balance on feeding and other needs.
“I sold the car for N450,000 and spent N300,000 on the wedding; I gave the money to my family to buy the needed wedding items, then I spent the balance on feeding myself for one year” he told a Punch correspondent.
Few months ago, it was also reported that a car wash attendant in Abuja, Afeez Ayo, was arrested by the police for allegedly stealing a customer’s 2008 Toyota Highlander SUV and taking it to Lagos on a joyride.
Ayo, a holder of an Ordinary National Diploma, was said to have changed the number plate of the vehicle and driven it to Ibadan from where he picked four passengers en route to Lagos.
The suspect was arrested at Agodi Junction, Ibadan on his way from Lagos by detectives from Apo police division, Abuja in collaboration with the Oyo State Police Command.
The Federal Capital Territory police spokesman, Anjuguri Manzah, explained that the owner of the SUV, Mrs. Adenike Sani, had left the car with Ayo at a car wash at the Apo Resettlement Centre, Abuja only for the attendant to disappear with the vehicle along with a Tecno phone belonging to a lady.

On getting the report of the theft, detectives were said to have tracked the vehicle to Oyo State where it was recovered and the suspect apprehended. Ayo on his own part, disclosed that he stole the SUV to get back at the management of the car wash facility, for planning to relieve him of his job.
