Shockwaves are reverberating across Yorùbáland and the global Yorùbá diaspora following the sudden death of the Baba Ọba (King’s Father) of the famed Oyotunji African Village in South Carolina, USA. The late Baba Ọba, Lukman Arohunfale, a revered socialite and traditionalist, passed away under circumstances already sparking fierce controversy. His death comes just days after he publicly accused the newly installed Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Akeem Adéyẹmọ Owoade, of allegedly ordering his courtiers to beat him mercilessly during a recent courtesy visit to the Oyo palace in Nigeria. According to David Markson, the NYSC State Coordinator, these 12 were selected from the 2018 Batch B stream I outgoing corps members for the honours to recognise them for the various projects they executed during their one year service.
He said: "Seven outgoing corps members received state awards while five got certificates of commendation. Also the overall best female corps member, Ngede Abigail, was awarded the 'first lady' award for emerging the overall best female in community development service.”
Markson further admonished the outgoing corps members to put to good use the skills they acquired during their one year service and also continue to be self-reliant whilst learning to be employers of labour.
