Shockwaves are reverberating across Yorùbáland and the global Yorùbá diaspora following the sudden death of the Baba Ọba (King’s Father) of the famed Oyotunji African Village in South Carolina, USA. Fuji singer K1 De Ultimate and Mayegun of Yorubaland has been accused of beating up an Ogun State-based broadcaster Wole Sorunke alias MC Murphy at the 60th birthday party of the Olu of Itori Oba Abdulfatai Akamo in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State. The Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria disclosed this in a call to the Alaafin of Oyo Oba Lamidi Adeyemi on Friday in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Read the call below: “We would like to tell His Majesty that it is not too late to strip him of that title. We have to understand that this is Yorubaland and this is where culture and tradition are held with a lot of candour,” he said. Murphy, a popular radio personality, said the feud began after K1 snubbed his client Fasina Olajide whom he took upstage to be eulogised by Ayinde as is customary of Fuji singers. Murphy said after the attack, K1 apologized to him. K1’s media manager Kunle Rasheed, when contacted, said in a text message to PUNCH: “Nothing of such happened. Anything that happened to him (Murphy) has nothing to do with Alhaji (K1).”
