Buhari Declares Holiday in Honour of Late Attahiru, Other Officers, Orders Flag to Fly at Half-Mast

 President Buhari has made new announcements in honour of COAS Attahiru and other officers who died in the Friday plane crash. 

Military personnel have been directed to stay off work on Monday, May 24, as the president declared it a work-free day for them.

From Monday, May 24 to Wednesday, May 26, the national flag will be flown at half-mast to mourn the departed soldiers. 

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared Monday, May 24, a work-free day for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces in honour of Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, the late Chief of Army Staff and 10 others who died in an air crash on Friday, May 21. 

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, said this in a statement on Sunday, May 23, Daily Trust reported. 

Legit.ng gathers that the Nigerian leader also ordered the national flag to be flown at half-mast in all public buildings, facilities and official residences from Monday, May 24 to Wednesday, May 26th. 

In its report of the development, AIT said President Buhari has approved three days of national mourning in honour of the fallen soldiers. 

The news media was also making reference to the period where the president ordered that flags be flown at half-mast. 

 In his earlier reaction, President Buhari said he was deeply saddened over the air crash that claimed Attahiru and other military officers. The Nigerian leader's reaction was contained in a statement released by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina late Friday, May 21.

The president condoled with families of the deceased, the military, and Nigerians in general, describing them as “heroes who paid the ultimate price for peace and security in the land.” 

Meanwhile, Attahiru and other officers who died in the plane crash have been laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja on Saturday, May 22. 

Honour guards performed the 21-gun salute for the late COAS at the graveside. A live video from the burial ceremony of the deceased heroes was posted on the Facebook page of the Nigerian Army.

Teenager commits suicide on livestream and his mother walked in on the heartbreaking scene (video)

A mother has been left devastated after her son committed suicide on  livestream  and she walked in to see his dead body. The 18-year-old Canadian teenager filmed his suicide for his followers to watch. He had a bandana covering his nose and mouth as he got ready to take his life. He had written a suicide note and he slid it out of the room, together with the key to the room he was in, through the space beneath the door.
