Ooni Of Ife Constitutes Committee To Rally Support For Sunday Igboho Over His Arrest

 After Sunday Igboho’s arrest at Cotonou in Benin Republic by Interpol on Tuesday, steps are underway by the Yoruba leaders to discuss on issues regarding to his arrest.


The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enita Ogunwusi, on Thursday, constituted a 28-man committee to brainstorm on the issues surrounding Igboho’s arrest.


According DAILY POST report, it stated that sources at the palace of the monarch confirmed the constitution of the committee.

The committee that was set up the Ooni of Ile-Ife is to look into the matter pertaining to Igboho’s arrest.

The committee is made up of prominent South West leaders. Professor Akin Osuntokun is the co-ordinator of the committee. 

Other members of the committee include; Oba Olusola Alao, the Olugbon of Igbon, Senator Biodun Olujimi, Toyin Saraki, Segun Awolowo, Doyin Okupe, Chief Gbenga Daniel and Mr Muyiwa Ige.

The Ooni of Ife, who is one of the first-class monarchs in the South-West Nigeria has inaugurated an advisory council comprising eminent Yoruba sons and daughters across the political spectrum. It is called the Ooni Caucus

Although, the Ooni Caucus had earlier scheduled the inauguration ceremony over a month ago which accidentally coincided with reports of Sunday Igboho’s arrest in Cotonou.

It was disclosed that the council would respond appropriately to the matter involving his arrest in the nearest future.

In the same vein, lovers and supporters of Sunday Igboho have prevented his extradition to Nigeria from Cotonou. Ever since arrest on Tuesday, there are many reports confirming that he is still in the custody in Cotonou.

In his attempt to flee to Germany, he was arrested by Interpol in Benin Republic. His arrest was followed after the security agencies in Nigeria had declared him wanted.

Igboho’s lawyer who spoke to him on phone said he wasn't allowed to see him. He explained how Igboho was crying on phone when he called him.

Recall that the DSS on 1st of July, invaded his residence at Sooka area in Ibadan, the Oyo capital. During a gun duel, the security agencies confirmed two persons were killed and others found in the house were arrested. But Sunday Igboho’s escaped arrest.


Since then, he had been declared wanted. The security agencies in Nigeria have been tracking him and sent signal to all neighboring countries to make his arrest possible.
