Iyabo Ojo

This rift lasted for a period of 10 years and it was tagged as one of the longest rift in Yoruba nollywood industry. The two of them were in the war path but then finally made peace in 2012. Actually it was in 2011 that a lot of people thought the rift was over but then it all started all over again. So what cause this rift? Iyabo Ojo as a thespian felt she should be respected by her other colleague Liz Anjorin.

This fight degenerated to a point where the actresses fight physically at a media house. And several interviews were granted and this two actresses called each other a lot of unprintable names. So who initiated this peace move?

Lizzy Anjorin

Well Iyabo Ojo saw on the internet that they were attacking each other spiritually and then she said I don’t think the situation has degenerated to this level. So she called Liz Anjorin and make peace with her just to let her know that she does not have anything against her anymore. That peace should reign and she should know that she does not hate or think bad about her. Following this move, Liz Anjorin responded well and they ended the so called rift.

Below is the interview iyabo ojo had with Ecomium magazine

Iyabo Ojo

How does it feel finally ending your rift with Liz Anjorin?

I have said I don’t really want to say anything on this issue.  But just to clear the air, I would say it feels good.  When you make peace, I am sure it’s always very good.  A good feeling that we are at last on talking terms, and we relate with one another better.  It’s good.

Who initiated the peace move?

I actually saw on the internet that we were attacking each other spiritually and I was like, I don’t think the situation has degenerated to that level.  So, I called her and I made peace with her, just to let her know that I don’t have anything against her anymore, that peace should reign and she should know that I don’t hate or think bad about her.  She responded well and we ended the so-called fight like the press called it (laughs).  Even though we never really had any physical confrontation.

You have been at war with Iyabo Ojo for about three years but now both of you have buried the hatchet, how was the reconciliation achieved?

Actually, I will say it’s God’s doing.  Before now, a couple had called me on the issue but I said no.  And I believe the same thing might have happened to her as well.  I believe it’s time for us to be reconciled, that’s why the whole thing came naturally.

Lizzy Anjorin

To be honest, I am happy about it, because people won’t be saying all sorts of rubbish about us again.  Some people can just cook up a story simply because they know we don’t talk.  I could remember a story they wrote about us then, they said that we met each other at a movie location and we fought, beat each other silly.  We have never gone to that extent.  It’s true we met at a movie location, and that’s late Alasari’s location, and we didn’t talk to each other, let alone beating each other.  We thank God, the story has changed now.  No more Iyabo Ojo abuses Lizzy today, Lizzy retaliates tomorrow.  People should just pray for us, not Iyabo and I alone but all the youths.  When two people are fighting and they are trying to come together, people should not fuel the crisis again.  They should just see what they can also contribute in making sure that the dispute is settled permanently. They should be happy that we have settled, they should just appreciate the kind of maturity we applied in resolving our differences.  Our reconciliation happened naturally just like I told, and I think that’s the best thing to happen in the industry in recent times.  If I personally want to bank on a lot of things I have heard just few days of the reconciliation, it would have been something else.  A lot of people are trying to discourage me, telling me that Iyabo wanted me to join this and that, that’s why she wants my hand in friendship, that’s why she wants us to come together.  But I keep telling them, thank you.  They are looking for a way of setting us against each other again and I am not for that.  I really appreciate Iyabo, I appreciate her courage and people should also appreciate us instead of looking for a way to tear us apart again.  I believe some people who don’t want our closeness are the ones trying to fuel the crisis.  They will go to Iyabo and tell her something bad about me and such people will also come to me and tell me something bad about her.  There is nothing to gain in that.  But now, we thank God, everything has become history.  We talk now and we’re happy about the development.

Iyabo Ojo

So, the reconciliation came naturally?

Yes, it’s natural. The situation has brought happiness now.  No side talking.  There is nothing like have you read what Iyabo Ojo said about you or what Lizzy said about Iyabo.  Everything has died down.

How does it feel now reconciling with Iyabo?

It’s okay.  It’s a good thing.  There is nothing to gain fighting each other. We are still very young, we have a long way to go.

What would you say you missed about picking a quarrel with her for that long?

I didn’t miss anything because we have not been friends before, not that we’re enemies.  It was just a kind of hi, hi from afar. If she happened to be a close friend before, I would have said I missed a lot.  But to be honest, I just appreciate Iyabo and I am okay by the reconciliation.

Ronke Oshodi Oke and Lizzy Anjorin

This was after Ronke Oshodi Oke cautioned her colleagues for flaunting their wealth on social media platform. Well it is common knowledge that some people love showing their wealth on social media platforms based on different reasons. And some don’t like showing off their worldly possessions. In a series of videos on her page, Liz called her colleague unprintable names and said there was more to Ronke Oshodi Oke video than what meant the eye.

Ronke Oshodi Oke

In the very video Liz said Ronke video is as a result of pure hate and according to her she paid the good luck charm on June 18 when she began flaunting her wealth and it pave way for her other colleagues to do the same thing. Though Ronke Oshodi Oke did not mention names while she was viewing her own opinion on social media platform about her colleagues. However Liz felt that video was directed at her and she described Ronke as evil, wicked and an old jobless begger.

Now things eventually cooled off on social media after that outburst but it kick started after they attended the same party over that weekend. And according to Liz, Ronke while handling the microphone made mention of the fact that she was a begger and this made her uncomfortable as she felt harassed. Ronke on the other hand put out a long video saying that herself and Liz are not mate and she would continue to ask for money at any event because she is doing her job as an MC. Well Liz also replied in a long round on social media that Ronke actually does not know her age that she only has small stature. This is one of the rifts that has not had a reconciliation till date.

In a chat with Sunday Scoop, Liz Anjorin opened up on her side of the story;

“It is not only in the Yoruba movie industry that women fight one another. If you go to another industry or country, the same thing happens. Wherever women are gathered, there will be evil. Once you see three or five ladies, next thing that comes up is fight and the major cause is always inferiority complex.

If you don’t carry them along, they will tag you a bad person. If you carry them along in all you do, they will expose and shame you. As a woman, you have to just settle for one side.”

On if the have settled their issue, Anjorin said;

“The problem with Nigerians is that we don’t celebrate people. If you want to write bad stories about me, you should celebrate me too. I know you are calling me to talk about my fight with Ronke. If you buy a car and see the need to show it to the public, is that a sin?

I don’t have any fight with anyone. It is a message and the person I sent the message to received it. I am not even fighting for only me but others too. At least, we should behave in a way that people will stop seeing Yoruba actors as poor people.”

Toyin Abraham and Lizzy Anjorin

Lizzy Anjorin allegedly accused Toyin Abraham of running the blog “Gistlover.com” alongside multiple Instagram accounts to troll her and other colleagues in the movie industry. Anjorin claimed that Abraham leaked damaging reports about her to blogs.

Toyin Abraham

The fight however came to a full glare with a post by a popular actress alleging that when Toyin Abraham put to bed, she didn’t send her a congratulatory message.

This action sparked a debate on her page while her fans hurled insults on Anjorin; others said Abraham kept mute as this was going on. However, the issue was later watered down when Toyin went on to apologise that she saw her message.

After this scenario, Nigerians woke up to see that the social media have been in a frenzy ever since Anjorin claimed the actress was living a fake life and didn’t even have a car nor a house of her own as she claimed.

She also alleged that contrary to the rumour that she gave birth to her child abroad, that it was actually at a local “agbo” seller’s house and had to borrow costumes for her photo shoot, all in pretence to show she’s wealthy and had arrived.

Interestingly, the nursing mother, with the help of her publicist, Big Sam of Broadway TV, released a video showing her after she welcomed her son in a hospital in Lekki, Lagos.

Toyin Abraham

On why she had her baby in Nigeria at the Vedic Lifecare Hospital in Lekki, Toyin Abraham said: “I got to know this place when I came to visit Princess Shyngle when she had issues; and I loved how nice everyone, the doctors and nurses, was.

“Since I had just moved into Lekki with my husband then, I decided to make this my family hospital. It has been a great experience, trust me. I am so happy and that is why I decided to have my baby in Nigeria because I trust the people here. I actually travelled out but I came back to Nigeria because I wanted him here at Vedic Hospital, with trusted hands.”

Taking the legal route

Meanwhile, Abraham has sent a legal warning of ‘cease and desist’ notice letter to Anjorin, through her lawyers, requesting her to forward a letter of apology via their office, and on her Instagram page.

Abraham’s lawyer said she issued the last warning to Anjorin and if she failed to reply within 24 hours, they would be forced to file a N500 million damages legal action against her.

However, Abraham also called Anjorin a ‘pig’ in the caption of the post.

“Silence is not golden,” she posted.

Toyin Abraham

“Rather than wrestle with a pig, it might be ideal to let the pig know that it belongs to the pen. I’m no longer speaking on this, my management team and attorneys are taking this up. Cc @bbbmedia @officialsamolatunj1.”

In her own counter-reaction, Anjorin, in a statement, revealed that she has written a petition to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to investigate both of them, as she has been accused by Toyin of dealing in drugs.

Meanwhile, Anjorin is of the opinion that Toyin has always been a cocaine user from the post she made on Instagram.

Reactions

Some of the veterans in the movie industry have come together to intervene in the ongoing messy fight between the two actresses.

Yoruba actors Bolaji Amusan (Mr Latin), who is the president of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), and Yinka Quadri, disappointment over the Instagram spat said they would not accept “any act of indiscipline” from the feuding actresses.

Meanwhile, Abraham’s husband, Kolawole Ajeyemi, has subtly hinted that his partner, Toyin, and colleague, Lizzy Anjorin, should stop “misbehaving” on social media.

“We ought to have used the social media for more useful and impactful things and not this misbehaviour,” wrote Ajeyemi.

“We are called celebrities because many people look up to us and want to be like us. Why are we misleading these people; we are meant to be good teachers and not a bad influence on society. Please, and please, let’s have a changed mindset to do good, if not for anything for the fact that people are looking up to us in so many ways of life. God bless you all.”
