Your Policy is Ill-Timed, SDP Candidate Tells Buhari

A House of Assembly candidate in Oyo State, Akinsete Olakunle has criticized the naira redesign policy initiated by President Muhammadu Buhari, saying it is ill-timed.

Akinsete is vying to represent Ibadan South-West Constituency II at the State House of Assembly, on the platform of Social Democratic Party, SDP.

He stated on Friday that the cash crunch has distorted the informal sector in the Oyo State, and the country.

He therefore appealed to President Muhammed Buhari to reverse the policy, saying the rule of law should not be overruled by a minority opinion of 'the cabals'.

The Ibadan-born comedian cum politician however called for calm and patience among youths in his constituency and Nigerians in general.

Akinsete wondered why the naira redesign policy was initiated close to the general election, noting that it is an inconsiderate move by the Federal Government.

He said the ongoing protest is a proof of Nigerians lack of trust in the APC-led federal government.

"I identify with the suffering of my people which is due to the ongoing fuel scarcity, inflation, insecurity leading to unwarranted frustrations. I feel what everyone is undergoing due to the currency swap and other implementation of new monetary policies is terrifying and undesirable".

"Regardless of the Federal Government's intents with this cash swap, it is a wrong move and wrong-timed. Making other denominations available at the POS machines and Bank counters ahead of the swap would have eased business transactions and organizational sectors of our economy"

"We are curently experiencing protests across cities, and it is important to appeal to everyone to be patient, law abiding and be as peaceful as possible".
