“I was always at the bottom of my class, but she believed in me” – Toke Makinwa appreciates mother as she recounts how she shaped her life (Video)

Nollywood actress, media personality and now entrepreneur Toke Makinwa has recounted an incident with her mother that helped shape her life.

The multitasker, while unveiling her fragrance line on Tuesday, credited her mother for helping her become who she is today as she rained praises on her. According to Toke, she was always at the bottom of her class, and she once got the beaten of her life when she tried playing smart by altering her report sheet.

She stated that whenever she was feeling ashamed and down, her mother was the only one who believed in her and would wake her up in the night, begging her to read. Now, her story has changed as she has gone from being at the bottom of the class to launching her own business.

“Another incident that shaped my life, I was always at the bottom of my class. There was this time we were like 52 in the class, and I came 52, and a part of me thought I was smart, and I cleaned the 5 and left the 2.

I was going home to show my parents that finally, after being bottom of the class, I came second, and when they looked at the report card, they flogged me. She didn’t spare my behind because she was frustrated. I remember when I was feeling ashamed and down, this was the same woman who believed in me and would wake me in the night, telling me to read. Mummy, I know I came last in class, but today, Mummy, I launched a perfume line”.

Her mother, who was present, almost broke down in tears as she expresses pride in her daughter. She appreciated Maker that her efforts weren’t in vain over her daughter as she credited everything to God.

“I thank God my efforts were not in vain; it’s the Lord’s doing”.

A few days back, Toke had responded to questions about her body enhancement surgery, admitting that her derriere isn’t real, and she went under the knife.

In March, Toke spoke on her relationship with her Maker and why she tore her prayer request, claiming that she realised that those who have tragedy befall them aren’t God’s enemies and that God owes no one anything.

Toke made it clear that though she knows God is real, she struggles to understand why there is so much pain in the world. She added that she tore her prayer request because people are often so obsessed with what they want God to do next that they do not live in the moment, whether good or bad.

Last month, Makinwa expressed that she was seeking members for her newly founded Believers Fellowship. Toke spoke out about her deal with God and appreciated Him for always keeping His word to her, even when she did not fulfil her side of the bargain.
