The command’s spokesperson said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects, numbering about five, invaded the residence which had reportedly suffered a similar attack sometime in February.
He added that upon arrival at the scene, it was gathered that the resident security guard had courageously engaged the armed suspects in a gun duel, resulting in the neutralisation of one suspect, while two others were arrested at the scene. According to DSP Ayanlade, the remaining members of the gang escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.
DSP Ayanlade disclosed that a thorough search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of one cut-to-size locally made short gun, one expended cartridge, one live cartridge, about five mobile handsets, two power banks, and a sum of money reasonably suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
The statement read, “The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of a successful operation carried out following an attempted armed robbery incident along Saki Road, Iseyin.
“At about 0200hrs, credible intelligence was received regarding an ongoing attempted armed robbery attack at a residence situated close to the scene of an earlier reported robbery incident within the same axis. In swift response, detectives were immediately mobilised to the scene to forestall the attack and restore normalcy.
