Daily Trust reports that the spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has called for the impeachment of President Muhammadu by the national assembly.
They are calling on the lawmakers to speedily impeach the President if he cannot secure Nigerians.
The President has been facing strong pressure
due rising insecurity in the country.
Baba-Ahmed made this known while he was being hosted on African Independent Television Kaaki programme on Monday.
He called on the national to act beyond mere rhetoric, saying that the lawmakers do
nothing other than just talking and making promises.
He called on the legislators to understudy the
areas where the President has failed and that there is no evidence he is going
to do anything about it. Our democratic systems empower those with the
responsibility to impeach those who are failing.
“If Buhari fails to do that, for me, those are impeachable offences. In the last six months, two years, what has the president done to secure the country? Absolutely nothing has been done and yet you see increasing failure of the state to protect citizens.”
