Presient Buhari reveals 'Why I was removed from office in 1985'

President Buhari yesterday said the reason he was removed from office in 1985 was because he refused to take an advice from the IMF and the World Bank to devalue the Naira and increase prices of fuel and flour. He said this when he spoke at the Nigerian Army Guards Brigade Regimental Dinner.
"I refused and gave my reasons and the next thing I knew I was removed and detained for three and half years. As a civilian president I will do my best and I’m telling you all these because you are part of the leadership of this great country and God willing we will remain great” he said.

Ambassador to Brazil murdered after he caught his wife with boyfriend ...photo

Greek ambassador Kyriakos Amiridis vanished without trace on Boxing Day, when he left the home of his wife's relatives in Rio de Janeiro and never returned

The Greek ambassador to Brazil whose body was found in a burnt-out car in Rio de Janeiro was murdered after finding his wife in bed with another man, police believe.

The charred remains of Kyriakos Amiridis, 59, were found on Wednesday underneath an overpass in the city, inside the car the diplomat had hired to spend Christmas and New Year with his wife's relatives.

His Brazilian wife Francoise Amiridis told police she was out shopping on Monday night when he phoned her at 8pm, saying he was going out, and never returned home.

But today police investigating the case claimed they believe his death was a "crime of passion" after he had discovered that his wife was having an affair with another man.

Investigators reportedly found blood stains in the apartment, which belongs to his wife, where the couple had been staying in the Nova Iguacu district of the city.

Police believe he was murdered in the apartment some time between Tuesday and Wednesday before his body was dumped in the hired car and set on fire yesterday morning.

The man Ms Amiridis was believed to have been having an affair with is reportedly a military police officer who works at a police base situated a local slum.

Investigators told Brazil's Extra newspaper that they believe Ms Amiridis may have paid a contract killer to murder her husband after he found out about their relationship.

Ms Amiridis, who is not yet under arrest, denies havin hands with the ambassador's death, claiming he never returned home on Monday, and didn't know why there was blood on the sofa.

Police are reportedly analysing the sofa, as well as CCTV images from the area.

President Buhari sacks EFCC Chairman Magu

I'm hoping that this is not true, but then in Nigerian politics anything, just anything, can happen.

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, may have finally been removed from office.

A source close to the matter told The Guardian that his redeployment back to Nigerian Police Force (NPF) was to pave way for a fresh person to be presented by President Muhammadu Buhari as the nominee to head the anti-graft agency before the Senate.

It was gathered to make the situation look like a routine exercise, some senior Police officers would be re-deployed by the Police hierarchy to resume as conventional Police officers.

It was equally reliably gathered yesterday that the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has already issued a leter to Magu on the development and directed that he hands over to the Director of Operations in the Commission.

Magu’s nomination was recently rejected by the Senate following allegations levelled against him by the Department of State Security Service (DSS).

EXPOSED: Seized 47 SUVs, bought for GEJ Campaign with money for dead PHCN workers

A former Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Power, Godknows Igali is in hot soup after operatives of the EFCC discovered that he allegedly spent N1.5bn for the purchase of Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) which were used by the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation.

Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, had said on Thursday that 40 SUVs and other vehicles were recovered from a retired Perm Sec in Abuja.

Now the full details are coming out...
Detectives at the EFCC disclosed that Godknows Igali was the retired civil servant being referred to.

An EFCC operative told Punch that the agency got to know about the vehicles through an artisan who had gone to do some maintenance work at Igali’s Abuja residence.

The artisan was said to have been surprised by the number of vehicles in the retired civil servant’s residence and quickly alerted the EFCC. That's a good Nigerian!

The detective said, “He (Igali) had allegedly secured the 47 vehicles in well guarded premises in an upscale neighbourhood of Abuja but he ran out of luck when an artisan who had come to fix a faulty utility got curious by the avalanche of state-of –the-art vehicles parked on the premises and tipped off the EFCC.

“The commission immediately commenced discreet investigation. In the course of investigation, it discovered that all the vehicles were supplied by Dilly Motors at the instance of Igali.”

Investigators, however, discovered that the money used in buying the vehicles did not emanate from Igali’s bank account but from Baseworth Insurance Brokers Limited, a company that was under investigation in another case of an alleged diversion of N27bn insurance premium of deceased staff of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

However, when representatives of Dilly Motors were invited, they told operatives of the EFCC in their statement that the payments were made by Baseworth Insurance Brokers Limited on behalf of the permanent secretary.

The EFCC source added, “It was initially difficult to determine the source of the funds with which the vehicles were purchased as it did not come directly from Igali’s account but a breakthrough came as the commission stumbled on evidence of a curious payment To Dilly Motors from the account of Baseworth Insurance Brokers Limited, a company that was under investigation in another case of alleged diversion of N27bn insurance premium of deceased staff of the PHCN.

“In one of the transfers, N300m was paid to Dilly Motors from the account of Baseworth Insurance Brokers. Operatives of the commission were curious to determine the service which Dilly Motors rendered to Baseworth Insurance Brokers to warrant payment. Dilly Motors on interrogation allegedly admitted that the N300m was part of the N1.5bn paid by Igali for the purchase of vehicles for the Goodluck/Sambo Campaign organisation to prosecute the 2015 general election.”

It was learnt that the Permanent Secretary may be charged to court soon.

Magistrate Court insists CP should arrest Oluwo of Iwo ...photo

A magistrate’s court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Fimihan Adeoye, to arrest Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, and bring him to court on January 6.

The magistrate, Olusola Aluko, gave the fresh order on Friday when the case involving the monarch came up for hearing again.

He said he was surprised that the police commissioner had not arrested Oluwo since he first issued the bench warrant of arrest against the First Class monarch.

Aluko expressed dismay that the police commissioner had not effected the bench warrant of arrest he had issued against the monarch, which he said he had signed and handed over to an officer of the state police command.

He said, “I am baffled that the commissioner of police has not done his duty. I am also surprised by his claim that he was unaware of the bench warrant. That must be a joke of the century. I, therefore, order him to immediately arrest the respondent.

“I am not joking with my order. He (Akanbi) should be arrested and brought to this court on Friday, January 6, 2017. The sanctity of the judiciary must be protected.”

Magistrate Aluko stated that the case instituted by the Oluwo Oke of Iwo-Oke, Oba Kadiri Adeoye, against Oluwo Akanbi before his court was not a chieftaincy case but a criminal one.

He said, “I will like to say that the matter before me was filed based on sections 35, 37 and 38 of the criminal procedures of Osun State.

“In a criminal case such as this, a defendant must appear in court. This court is not trying chieftaincy matter. It is the law that once an order is made, to prevent anarchy, such an order must be obeyed.

“It is to be noted that an order was first made by my brother, Magistrate Omisade of Iwo jurisdiction before the case was transferred here by fiat and I had asked him (Akanbi) three times to appear before this court.”
Oluwo had said he would also issue a traditional warrant of arrest on Magistrate Aloku.

Lagos state to install 16,000 water meters in February

The Lagos State Government is to begin the installation of 16,000 meters to regulate water supply in the state in February, 2017.

The Managing Director of the Lagos Water Corporation, LWC, Mr. Muminu Badmus who disclosed this on Friday at a news conference in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria said the installation would begin in February next year and would last for three months.

Badmus listed the pilot areas where the metering system would take off to include Surulere, Yaba, Ebute Meta, Itire, Iwaya, Lagos Island, Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki Phase One.

He said the 16,000 meters would be installed in the first instance to put to rest the controversy over the volume of water supplied to each household and also curb wastage.

X-raying the activities of the year, Badmus lamented that power from the national grid has been a major hindrance to water production and distribution in the State.

“Equally, the absence of gas has made the Independence Power Plant (IPP) not to function effectively as projected. It is on record that “Nigeria is losing 3,132 megawatts in a day; this is due to gas constraint, pipeline vandalization, inadequate infrastructure to transport the gas to power plants.

“The present administration has taken a proactive step in addressing this challenge with the procurement of diesel-powered generators to power our waterworks; this has made water supply to be stabled in Lagos Metropolis.

“We all know that water is the most essential element of life on earth, and our existence depends on safe and potable water, that conforms to World Health Organisation standard. That is why, Lagos Water Corporation is highly committed to its assigned responsibility of providing safe drinking water in sufficient and regular quantity, maintaining good quality services, meeting customers’ expectations and promoting community health,” he said.

Badmus explained that Lagos, as the commercial and economic hub of Nigeria with the current population of over 20 million, was projected to reach 29 million by year 2020, noting that this had put pressure on the existing LWC facilities and for the corporation to keep pace with this exponential growth of population in the State, and provide regular and sufficient water, the Corporation had designed a Lagos Water Supply Master Plan (2010 – 2020), which served as a frame work for pragmatic approach to solve the problem of water shortage that might arise from population explosion.

The LWC boss said that in spite of these daunting challenges, the corporation had executed a great number of projects that had positively impacted on the people of Lagos State.

“The State Government is expanding the water facilities to meet the water demand of 540 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) and this gave birth to the commissioning of Otta-Ikosi Regional Waterworks of 4 MGD in Epe Division, in May this year, with 80.32Km pipe network/reticulation which is currently serving eleven communities between Agbowa and Itokin.

“These include Ado, Agbowa, Ago – Hausa, Ago – Owu, Ajebon Orugbo, Iganke, Ikosi, Odo Ayandelu and Otta Ikosi. In the same month, the State commissioned Mosan-Okunola Mini Waterworks of 2MGD with 5.0Km pipe network/reticulation in Mosan Okunola LCDA. This is currently serving Abesan Estate, Baruwa, and adjoining communities.

“In the same vein, the State Executive Council recently gave an approval to commence the development of Odomola Water Scheme II of a 100MGD Water plant and the reticulation of the primary, secondary, and tertiary distribution within the Odomola service areas such as, Lekki Phase 1, Dolphin, Victoria Island – Saka Tinubu, Victoria Island Annex, Ikoyi–Alexander Road, Ikoyi – Club Road, Badore, Epe 1 and Epe 11. This Project will be executed on Public Private Partnership basis,” he stated.

He restated government’s commitment to the provision of safe and potable water to Lagosians as evident in 2017 budget as more funds had been earmarked for execution and to facilitate all the projects in the water sector to improve access to potable water in the State.

Police make 50 arrests after raid on Nigerian drug ring in Vienna, Austria

Image result for images of vienna police
Police in Vienna on Thursday, December 29th, arrested 50 people in connection with a Nigerian drug ring which operated in the Austrian capital. Investigators said they had been on the trail of the gang for the past three years, and that in that time it has netted a profit of over €6 million. 21 kilos of illegal drugs, mainly cocaine and heroin, were seized during the raids.

However, police told a press conference on Friday that the gang would probably cut the drugs with other
substances to increase the amount that could be sold on the street to around 100 kilos. The drugs were mainly sold in Vienna by Nigerian dealers. Detective Georg Rabensteiner said that 100 kilos of drugs would "cover" demand in Vienna for a few months.

Police first became aware of the gang's existence at the end of 2012, when a Nigerian man was caught smuggling €250,000 in cash hidden within cars which were brought from Vienna to Nigeria. An investigation revealed that the money came from drug trafficking. Gang members regularly sent over large amounts of drugs to Austria via ten people who acted as drug mules.

The couriers would swallow between one and one and a half kilograms of drugs, which were then sold in Vienna. Police said that the cocaine and heroin which was seized was 80 percent pure.
