Nigerian Female Soldier Who Complained About Sexual Harassment By Senior Military Officers In Viral Video Arrested, Flown From Lagos To Abuja

The soldier serving in Lagos State, who did not disclose her name, raised the alarm in the viral video that some senior army officers were threatening her life for rejecting their sexual advances.

Afemale soldier in the Nigerian Army who recently complained in the viral video about sexual harassment in the military has been arrested and moved to Abuja.

ESABOD learned that the soldier was flown to Abuja from Lagos on Tuesday morning.

“The lady who complained in the viral video about sexual harassment in the military has been arrested and moved to Abuja by air this morning. She was flown out accompanied by military police in mufti from Lagos to Abuja,” a top military source told

She lamented how the senior army officers – who she identified as Col. I.B. Abdulkareem, Col. G.S. Ogor and Brig. Gen. I.B. Solebo – had been oppressing her since she was posted to Cantonment Medical Centre, Ojo, Lagos in 2022, for refusing their sexual advances. She said she had been locked up several times for no reason, ejected from her apartment, and put in a psychiatric hospital for a month without any medication based on a false claim that she had a mental illness.

According to her, her bank account had been frozen since February 2023 and she had not been paid salary for no reason.

She further alleged that Col. Abdulkareem had attempted to rape her on multiple occasions. The female soldier said the army officer later claimed that she had a mental illness, adding that she had made several efforts including writing a petition and getting some senior and junior officers to intervene but that all was to no avail.

She also said that Col. Abdulkareem had denied her access to every army course and passes to see her parents. According to her, her father contacted Col. Abdulkareem over her issues, but he (Abdulkareem) reportedly told her father to inform her to obey the last order.

She said, “I know definitely they will come for me. They will lock me up and they will dismiss me but I don’t care. I can’t endure again. Before coming out to make this video, I can’t endure again. I don’t want to die young.

“If anything should happen to me, please hold Col. I.B. Abdulkareem, Col. G.S. Ogor and Brig. Gen. I.B. Solebo responsible, because they don’t want me to grow. They don’t want my progress.

“In 2022, I was posted to Cantonment Medical Center, Ojor where I met Col. I.B. Abdulkareem, who requested for me and I refused. Ever since then, this man has been my nightmare in the army - threatening to dismiss me each time he sees me.

“He ejected me from my room, sent some boys to my house. I have all the evidence and I have witness. He came to my house to eject me.

“Each time I try to expose him or each time any senior officer tries to intervene, he also stigmatizes me, that I have mental illness. He would always tell them that I have mental illness.

“He wrote to DOA three times to board me out of the army. He froze my account for one year. He froze my account since February last year (2023) till date, no salary.

“I have cried to some senior officers. I wrote a petition using Section 179 of the Armed Forces Act. I have seen so many officers, senior officers, junior officers to intervene but none of them is giving me a listening ear. Any time anyone tries to intervene, he will tell them that I have mental illness.

“There was a day he locked me, he almost raped me and when they caught him, he said I have mental illness and he took me to a psychiatric hospital and locked me up there for one month without any medication.

“He has denied me access to military courses, meanwhile, they know very well that my progression in the army is determined by my course attendance. Now course, I have been given admission in a medical school but he refused to release me.

“There was a day I called my dad and my dad intervened but he told my dad to tell me to obey the last order. What is the last order? For him to sleep with me?

“He has denied me everything. I can’t even go on passes to see my parents. No pass, no leave for me. But please and please, if anything should happen to me, hold them responsible, especially Col. IB Abdulkareem, Col. GS Ogor and Brig. Gen. IB Solebo. They are my nightmare in the Army.

“They have done everything to tarnish my image because they are all course mates. I don't know what I have done to them. Till today I haven’t collected salary. I can’t endure this again. Let the worst happen.”

SaharaReporters had on Friday reported that it had begun an investigation into alleged maltreatment.

The army in a release by Major-General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, said the female soldier had yet to inform relevant bodies and institutions about her predicament before releasing the video.

HAKEEM: Retired Nurse, Housemaid Stabbed To Death

Mrs Esther Amali, a retired nurse, and her housemaid, Mercy Mwuese, were reportedly stabbed to death by a young guy who broke into their home near the Federal Low-Cost Estate in Makurdi, Benue State’s capital.

An eyewitness account said the incident occurred at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday while another source said the suspected murderer entered the complex and attacked the housemaid, who was in her twenties when the retired nurse was out of the house.

There were two explanations for why the accused murderer invaded the house.

One version claimed that the housemaid was impregnated by one of the opposition cultists who had supposedly murdered one of their members.

Another version alleged that the deceased’s housemaid had an argument with the suspected killer over his friend, whom Mercy accused of being responsible for her pregnancy and now the father of her child.

New Telegraph discovered that the accused murderer had repeatedly told the deceased housemaid to stop associating his acquaintance with the father of her child.

The attacker was claimed to have scaled fence to get access to the property while the retired nurse was not present. The retired nurse returned to the residence at the same time the attacker was stabbing the housemaid, according to an eyewitness, and was welcomed by loud noise from the housemaid.

The eyewitness said, “As soon as the retired nurse entered and heard the cry of the housemaid, she rushed in only to see a young man stabbing Mercy (housemaid)

“Mama started begging and calling the name of the suspected murderer to stop but he could not listen to Mama’s plea as he went on to stab Mercy until she was unconscious and then faced Mama and also stabbed her multiple times.

“Before help could reach Mama (retired nurse)the suspected murderer had escaped.

“But neighbours immediately arranged for a vehicle and conveyed Mama and the housemaid to the hospital.  While on the way to the hospital, Mama though, gasping for breath, was able to narrate how the incident happened in a little way.

“Unfortunately, she could not make it as she gave up the ghost before getting to the hospital.

“Their remains have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi while another neighbour had taken custody of the baby the housemaid left behind.

I Prepared Myself For Probe – Buhari

The immediate past President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said his administration prepared for probe.

Speaking on Tuesday, the Erstwhile Nigerian President said he kept an account of his time in power, knowing that he would always be required to account for all entrusted to him.

At the book launch titled, “Working with Buhari: Reflections of a Special Adviser Media and Publicity (2015–2023),” he chronicled his achievements in the eight years he was in power.

Authored by Femi Adesina and “Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy (2015–2023), a compilation of about a hundred contributors edited by Dr. Udu Yakubu.

Buhari, who was visiting the nation’s capital for the first time since leaving office on May 29, 2023, said under his watch, nothing was done under the veil of secrecy.

Buhari said, “Without documentation, revisionism wins. Human beings often have short memories, and unless events are recorded in cold print, some people would come and attempt to either distort or even obliterate recent history.

“But the fact in our favour is that nothing was done under the veil of secrecy. We were as transparent and accountable as possible, being aware of the fact that posterity was the ultimate judge.

“We kept records of our stewardship, knowing that we would always be required to account for the trust entrusted to us. This event today is part of accounting for our two terms in office, and I thank those who have laboured day and night, to ensure that this history is recorded for now and the future.

Government is a continuum. It is like a relay race. You run your course, and hand over the baton to the next person. This we have done”

EGBAMI OOO: Ogun Monarch Risks Jail Term Over Alleged Abuse Of Naira

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), has frowned at the abuse of naira notes by a traditional ruler in Ogun State.

The monarch, Olu Owode, Oba Kolawole Sowemimo in a viral video had allegedly abused the naira while spraying popular fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1 at a party.

In the viral, the monarch had knitted N1,000 notes together forming a long rope which he wrapped around the neck of KWAM 1.

The monarch was seen personally engaging in the act of abuse with the help of his aide on the dance floor.

But, reacting to this, NOA said the monarch violated Section 21 (3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007 as amended, which stipulates that spraying of, dancing or matching on the naira or any note issued by the bank during social occasions or otherwise, howsoever shall constitute abuse and defacing of the naira or such note and shall be punishable under the law by fines or imprisonment or both.

The statement reads partly, “The NOA has the mandate to preserve and promote the integrity of our national symbols and we are compelled to appeal to you and indeed all traditional rulers to see it as part of your duty to preserve these symbols as part of our national culture.

“These symbols are icons that define us as a sovereign nation and respect for them is also respect for our country,” Issa-Onilu said.

Issa-Onilu, however, appealed to the monarch to desist from such an act and rather become an apostle against abuse of the Naira notes.
