I will curse politicians frustrating Yoruba nation –Gani Adams

Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has threatened to place a curse on politicians infiltrating and frustrating the struggle for Yoruba nation.

Adams said some prominent politicians in the South-West have infiltrated the struggle for the actualisation of the Yoruba nation.

The Aareonakakanfo was quoted as saying this at the weekly O’odua Peoples Congress Stakeholders meeting, held at the Oodua House in Ikeja, Lagos, on Tuesday, according to a statement.

He pointed fingers at some prominent politicians, including someone he referred to as “our senior brother in Lagos”.

Adams outburst is coming after the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress in the South-West rejected calls for separation of Nigeria, saying that the country needs religious and ethnic unity to progress.

He accused the prominent politicians of betraying the Yoruba cause for “true liberation”.

The PUNCH gathered that there is an internal crisis among agitators for the Yoruba nation over allegation that one of their leaders have been bought over with a contract by the Federal Government.

But Adams said the disagreement between those agitating for the actualisation of the Yoruba nation is caused by “agents that are being paid to frustrate the liberation movement”.

He said, “It is unfortunate that some people are determined to weaken the spirit of the agitators. Unfolding events in the last few weeks have shown that some prominent politicians have hijacked the struggle for the actualisation of O’odua Repubic. It is an attempt to distract us from the true and original intention of the struggle. But I want to say it here that the struggle to seek a new nation is our legitimate rights that we are determined to live and die for and we wouldn’t waiver in our beliefs and determination to liberate our race.

“As the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, I have put in close to three decades experience in the struggle and I know what it takes to win a struggle of this nature. So for those who had been infiltrating the struggle, I will curse them for seven days and if they fail to heed the warnings, I think they would have themselves to blame.”

In the statement by Adams’ media aide, Kehinde Aderemi, titled, ‘Yoruba nation’s struggle infiltrated by politicians- Gani Adams’, the Yoruba generalissimo was also quoted as cursing those instigating crisis in Yoruba land.

“I will continue to curse them repeatedly for seven days because they deserve nothing but the wrath of God and that of the Yoruba ancestors,” he added.

Police have charged a man Adisa and his wife Elizabeth Obanla following a three-year investigation into a migrant visa scam, hitting him with almost two dozen charges.

A 52-year-old man Adisa is facing almost two dozen fraud charges relating to an alleged $800,000 migrant visa scam conducted over a three-year period.

The man was initially arrested in Sydney two days ago following a raid on a Harris Park address where electronic devices and documents were seized, Queensland Police said.

The raid was conducted as part of Operation Romeo Avid, which was launched in 2020

after police received multiple complaints.

The complaints related to two Queensland-based migration services, Global Skills and Business Services, and Specialised Resources Pty Ltd, allegedly defrauding customers between April 2015 and November 2020.

Police allege the man was the director of the two companies that targeted migrant visa holders in Queensland, offering to find them sponsored jobs as a pathway to permanent residency.

He is accused of charging each person between $25,000 and $45,000 for services he did not deliver.

Police say 23 people have made complaints, and the total of the alleged fraud is $799,000.

Detective Acting Inspector Adam Bennett said the nature of the alleged offending was concerning.

He said investigations had identified these jobs did not exist as advertised, if at all.

Police will allege the offender took several measures, including falsifying documents and operating from a professional city office, to legitimise his fraudulent activity to victims.

Friends and family members of a Nigerian Air Force pilot, Flt Lt Taiwo Olufemi Asaniyi, are grief-stricken at the moment as the young officer, who was about to wed, died when a Beachcraft 350 aircraft crashed at the Kaduna International Airport on Friday.

Asaniyi was the pilot of the ill-fated jet which also claimed the lives of his co-pilot, Flt Lt Alfred Ayodeji Olufade, newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, and eight others.

Friends and associates of Asaniyi have since taken to the social media to mourn the youth.

The PUNCH reports that at least 20 military officers have lost their lives in the last three months in three crashes involving Nigerian Air Force jets.

On Sunday, February 21, 2021, seven NAF officers died onboard a Beechcraft KingAir B350i aircraft when the jet crashed in Abuja.

Also, on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, said an Alpha-Jet aircraft involved in the anti-terror war against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province lost radar contact in Borno State.

Two officers were onboard the missing jet which was later declared crashed and the whereabouts of the two airmen unknown till date.
