South African anti-apartheid figure, Andrew Mlangeni, who stood trial alongside Nelson Mandela in the 1963-64 Rivonia Trial, has died at the age of 95. Mlangeni's death was announced on Wednesday, July 22. He was the last surviving Rivonia trialist, spending more than a quarter of a century imprisoned on Cape Town’s notorious Robben Island before his release in 1989.

Gabon President Ali Bongo on Thursday, July 16, promoted his defence minister, Rose Christiane Ossouka Raponda to prime minister, making her the first woman in the country to hold the office of Prime Minister. More details have emerged on how Ibrahim Magu, acting EFCC chairman, was whisked away by security agents earlier today. Mr. Magu’s arrest on Monday afternoon at the Wuse II office of the EFCC. Multiple sources said that the security agents who arrested Mr. Magu took him directly to the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he was to appear before a presidential panel investigating alleged corruption and insubordination.

I sympathize with Mrs. Florence, widow of late former governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, who died last week. It feels bad to know that her husband was neglected when he was sick and his burial triggered unnecessary dirty politicking. But, the Ajimobis should not be too angry. Why?
