Photo of Nigerian drug lord sentenced to 27 years in Cambodia and loses appeal today

A Cambodian Court of Appeals on Tuesday, December 6th, upheld the sentence of a Nigerian drug trafficking convict. Precious Chineme Nwoko (pictured in court today) was sentenced to 27 years imprisonment in Cambodia in 2014...

The court upheld his prison term, ruling that it was appropriate and in accordance with Cambodian law...

Khieu Vann, the lawyer for Taylor, told reporters that the appeals court’s decision was an injustice and that he would consult with his client to see if she wished to appeal to the Supreme Court. Asked today by journalists why he used dating scams to turn women into drug mules, Nwoko became enraged, according to a report by Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald "Are you stupid? Get out of here.

You think you can come here and ask questions while I am jail," he shouted at Luke McMahon, a Melbourne writer who has revealed Taylor’s plight in an exclusive story for Fairfax Media. Nwoko, a ringleader in a heroin smuggling cartel in Cambodia was arrested for handing a backpack containing 2.2 kilos (4.8 pounds) of heroin to two women, 41-year-old Australian Yoshe Ann Taylor and 19 year old French Charlene Savarino, for onward transportation to an unidentified man in Australia.

Both women were however arrested in 2013 at Phnom Penh International Airport. Judge Kor Vandy at Phnom Penh Municipal Court who presided over their case said Nwoko and the two women were guilty of ‘cross-border smuggling of illegal drugs and thereafter sentenced Nwoko’s 19year old girlfriend Savarino to 25 years in jail, while 41 year old Taylor was handed 23 years. They all denied the drug belonged to them.

75 year old man who just lost his wife advertises for wife...photo

A 75-year-old Tanzanian man has launched an elaborate search for a partner after his wife died.

Athumani Mchambua has put up advertising posters in the low income area of Mbagala in the main city of Dar es Salaam, urging interested applicants to show up for an interview.

The poster, in Swahili, says the successful candidate must be hardworking, able to handle farm work and be willing to be a step-mother to his 11 children:

Mr Mchambua told the BBC's Munira Hussein that he wanted to do the search on his own and not through intermediaries, which is traditional in some cultures.

I felt that if I was to use a traditional intermediary to find a wife, they might find a woman and then want to keep her for themselves. That's why I decided that I search for her on my own, and put out those posters.
He has so far interviewed four candidates:

I have held the interview only once and four candidates showed up, but no one had all the qualities. Some mentioned only two out of four [qualities] but not more than that."
His daughter Dalia Mchambua told the BBC that she was happy with her father's process and was ready to accept the winning "candidate" as her mother.

The AGF accuses Justice Adeniyi Ademola of receiving N8m car gift through his son

The office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) has accused embattled Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja of accepting an N8million car as gratification from a lawyer, Joe Odey Agi. The Nation reports that Justice Ademola allegedly accepted “a BMW saloon 320i, valued at N8m” through his son, Ademide Ademola from Agi who had a case before his court.

This allegation is among the new charges filed against Justice Ademola and his wife, Olabowale by the office of the AGF.  Mrs Ademola is alleged to have accepted a N30m cash gift on behalf of her husband from a law firm known as Messrs Joe Agi and Associates.

In the 11-count charge filed on December 1, the couple are accused, in count one, of conspiring, between March 11 and 24, 2015, to receive gratification from Messrs Joe Agi and Associates through their accounts 206/174191/2/0 and 201/110160/1/0 domiciled at GTBank Plc, and committed an offence contrary to Section 26(1)(c) of the Corrupt Practices and other related offences Act 2000.

Mrs. Ademola is accused in counts two, three and four of receiving N10m gratification thrice from Messrs Joe Agi and Associates through her GTBank account on behalf of her husband between March 11 and 24, 2015, an offence contrary to Section 8(1)(a) of Corrupt Practices and other related offences Act 2000.

Justice Ademola is accused in counts five and six of “dealing with property subject matter of an offence” by transferring N85m and N90m on February 24, 2014, through his account 286/174191/2/0 in GTBank to Franco Dan Parker, “which forms the proceeds of an unlawful act and thereby committed an offence contrary to Corrupt Practices and other related offences Act 2000.

The judge is accused in count seven of attempting, on February 21st 2014, to obtain gratification of N25m from Sani Shaibu Teidi “as a motive for showing favour in the exercise of your official functions, contrary to Section 118(b) of the Penal Code Act”.

In count eight, Justice Ademola is accused of receiving gratification of “a BMW saloon 320i, valued at N8m from Joe Odey Agi, through your son, Ademide Ademola, an act contrary to Section 8(1)(a) of the Corrupt Practices and other related offences Act, 2000.

In count nine, 10 and 11, he is accused of illegally possessing firearms and ammunition (one Avar Magnum 608, Avar Magnum 6284) and 35 rounds of live ammunition (catridges) without valid licences an offence contrary to Section 3 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special provisions) Act 2004.

The planned arraignment of the couple before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama was stalled yesterday, owing to the inability of the prosecution to effect service of the charge on the defendants.

When the case was called, the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF), Mohammed Umar, told the court that in exercising his powers under Section 174 of the Constitution, and Section 104 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), the AGF has instructed that a private lawyer, Segun Jegede lead the prosecution of the case.

When he took over, Jegede, a former prosecutor at the International Criminal Court (ICC), told the court  that the court’s bailiff was unable to serve the defendants the charge.

Relying on the provision of Section 382(5) of the ACJA, Jegede sought the court’s permission to serve copies of the charge on the defendants’ lawyer, for onward transfer to them.

He equally applied to withdraw an earlier charge filed by the prosecution on November 14, 2016. Defence lawyer Jeph Njikonye, did not object to the prosecution’s withdrawal of the earlier charge. He also expressed his readiness to accept copies of the new charge for his clients.

Justice Jude Okeke struck out the charge withdrawn by the prosecution and directed Njikonye to accept copies of the fresh charge for his clients.

Justice Okeke adjourned till Tuesday for arraignment.

Nigeria Customs seize 20ft container of ready-to-eat Nigerian food imported from India ...photo

The Nigeria Custom Service has seized a 20ft container of ready-to-eat Nigerian food imported from India at Tin Can Island Port, Lagos.

The Customs Area Controller, of Tin Can Island Port, Comptroller Bashar Yusuf, handed over a container found to contain 1,395 cartons of ready-to-eat food such as Yam Porridge, Beans Porridge, Egusi Soup etc, to Mr. Udo Ekpo, a Deputy Director of NAFDAC on Monday, November 28th.
Addressing stakeholders at the premises of SDV/SCOA where he handed over the container, the Controller described the scenario as an aberration considering the fact that the Federal Government of Nigeria in her wisdom granted zero duty for the importation of machinery for the packaging of Agricultural products into the country, and wondered why an indigenous menu would be imported into the country at a time when investors are much sought for to boast local Industries.

Speaking further, he charged would be investors to look at the export potentials which abound in the country and take advantage of same for their Socio-Economic benefits.

Muslim man who attacked a 16-year-old boy he spotted cuddling his girlfriend in the street, jailed ....photo

The Muslim man, who branded a schoolgirl a ' whore' and attacked her 16-year-old boyfriend , slamming his head into a wall after he spotted the couple cuddling (read here), has been sentenced to a total of 28 months imprisonment on Monday, December 5th at Southwark Crown Court.

Michael Coe, a 35-year-old Muslim convert of Devenish Road, was found guilty on Wednesday, 24 Augustof actual bodily harm (ABH) of the boy and common assault of a 31-year-old man who witnessed and took photos of the attack. Coe was sentenced to two years for the ABH and four months for the assault to run consecutively.

On Friday, 15 April, Coe, who described himself as a "self-appointed enforcer" of how Muslims should behave, pulled up in a silver Ford Focus on Wilson Road, E6 when he saw the victim and the boy's 16-year-old girlfriend hugging at a bus stop. He told the boy to leave the girl alone, then got out of the car and asked if they were Muslim, after which he called the girl a "whore".

When the boy remonstrated with Coe for speaking to his girlfriend in this way, Coe grabbed the boy by the throat and smashed his head against a wall.

The boy passed out, falling to the floor, and Coe kicked him in the head while his girlfriend helplessly looked on. Coe momentarily got back into the car but seeing that a man in the street was taking photos on his mobile phone, he got back out and tried to wrench the phone from his hands.

Unsuccessful, Coe picked the man identified as a schoolteacher Boutho Siwela, up and threw him to the floor, before driving off in the car. Both victims were taken to hospital. The teenager suffered cuts to his head; the other victim escaped without serious injuries as he was wearing a crash helmet at the time of the attack.

Detectives from Newham Borough were able to trace the Ford Focus as the 31-year-old man had caught the registration plate on his mobile phone. They then used the man's photos of Coe to identify him as the perpetrator.

Officers from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command (SO15) took the lead for the investigation as they arrested Coe for these offences at the same time they arrested him for malicious communications. Coe was charged in relation to all three offences but the charge of malicious communications was later discontinued. Officers from SO15 retained the investigation into the assaults.
When Coe was arrested on Saturday, 16 April he claimed that he had assaulted the boy because he believed the girl was in distress but at court the prosecution argued that the attack by Muslim-convert Coe had religious overtones. He made no mention of kicking the boy in the head or assaulting the second victim during his police interview.

Chief Superintendent Tony Nash, Newham Borough commander, said:
"Coe tried to save himself from prosecution by purporting to be some kind of hero, coming to the rescue of a girl he had in fact been abusive to. It was fortunate that both victims did not suffer serious physical injuries, although the mental and emotional impact on them, and the teenage girl who witnessed the attack, is difficult to gauge. I'm grateful to the second victim, who bravely took photos of the incident, at risk to himself. This evidence enabled us to quickly identify Coe. He also provided crucial witness testimony at the trial.
The Muslim convert was radicalised in prison by al-Qaeda terrorist Dhiren Barot in 2007. He was known to be a member of the banned organisation al-Muhajiroun, which was founded by the convicted hate preacher Choudary.

Men who kidnapped and murdered Dangote’s Senior Strategist caught by police ...photo

We brought you a report yesterday of how an employee of Dangote Industries Ltd., Istifanus Bello, was killed  by kidnappers when he went to negotiate for the release of another kidnapped staff. Well, there is an update. The police have busted the heartless guys who committed the evil act.

Read the official press statement from the Nigerian Police Force:

The coordinated clampdown on crime and criminality throughout the country has continued to yield positive results.

2. The IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT) recorded another breakthrough with the arrest of three of the kidnappers that murdered one and kidnapped five expatriate members of staff of Dangote group. The IRT, armed with credible intelligence, between November 27, 2016 and December 3, 2016 arrested three of the kidnappers: Abubakar Gide 24, Abdullahi Salihu 22, and Babuga Adamu 25 in Ijebu Igbo - Ogun state, Epe Forest - Lagos State and Ajase Ipo Forest - kwara state respectively.

3. The suspects confessed to kidnapping and releasing all five initial victims after receiving N5.6 million ransom. They also confessed to kidnapping and murdering the ransom transporter, Mr. Istifanus Gurama, also of Dangote group.

4. However, it is imperative relations of kidnap victim(s) should exercise considerable restraint in negotiating and paying ransom. It is absolutely important the negotiators of ransom should have confidence in the police.

5. Meanwhile, the suspects have since led the police to their hideout in Ijebu Igbo Ogun Forest where the following arms and ammunition they used in the operation were recovered: 3 AK47 rifles, 6 AK47 magazines and 160 rounds of ammunition. The suspects further led IRT operatives to Apoje River where the body of Mr. Bello Gurama was recovered. Efforts are in progress to arrest other gang members who are currently at large in other states.

6. The IGP admonishes police officers not to get carried away by recent successes but instead redouble their efforts in the fight against crime; and has assured Nigerians that the police will remain undaunted in the collective fight against crime. As members of the public begin the yuletide celebrations, the police will ensure the celebrations are crime free.

Shocking! Woman saves and adopts malnourished boy 'starved for 7 years' at an orphanage in Bulgaria ...photo

Ryan Morse (pictured) was left weighing 8lbs after being starved for seven years and covered in hair as a result of malnutrition.

Born and found close to death at an orphanage in Bulgaria, his life changed for the better when in 2015 a woman named Priscilla Morse, who was adopted as a child, saw a picture of him on Facebook and knew that she had to save him.
By October 2015, she was able to take Ryan home to Nashville Tennessee, USA, and in 13 months he has made significant improvements, gaining 15lbs in weight. This was however because they took immediate action immediately they arrived back. Priscilla said:

‘We went straight to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, we didn’t even go home to see our kids. The doctors hadn’t seen anything like it either. They told me that if it had happened in America it would be national news because it was so shocking, to be starved for seven years. They didn’t think he would make it.’

At first Ryan suffered from re-feeding syndrome, which meant he had to wait until January 2016 before his body could cope with a feeding tube. He would also swallow air to make himself feel full and regurgitate food to mimic eating - stopping him from getting nutrients. However in March, after being switched from a gastrostomy tube (G-tube) to a Jejunostomy feeding (J-tube), he started to gain weight.

Ryan is currently seeing different specialists and awaiting an official diagnosis but is believed to have cerebral palsy and a form of dwarfism. Urging people to not neglect children with special means. Priscilla said:
‘I would really urge parents thinking of adoption not to over look kids with disabilities. It is a struggle, you have to have a dark sense of humour. If you can’t laugh you won’t make it. But these kids are worth it.’

Photo of 11-year-old Nigerian girl accused of witchcraft by her father, beaten and thrown out the house

According to UNICEF Nigeria, 11-year-old Nigerian girl Brenda (not real name) was accused of witchcraft by her father, who held her responsible for his misfortune in life. She was beaten and thrown out the house.
"Brenda now lives in a church, doesn’t attend school anymore and her desire to be a doctor now seems a pipe dream." said UNICEF Nigeria. "Ironically most states where children are accused of witchcraft and maltreated have passed the Child Rights Law. When families fall into hard times, a child is accused of using witchcraft to bewitch the family. In this period of economic recession if we do not start a campaign on strict implementation of the Child Rights Law to protect these children, maybe more would be branded witches"
