Gas Explosion In Filling Station Kills 2, Injures Many Others

A tragic gas explosion occurred in Adigbe area of Abeokuta, Ogun State. Sadly, two persons were confirmed dead on the spot while several others were injured.

A welder was said to be carrying out a repair work at RAB Engineering Petrol Station in the area, which is believed to have triggered the fire.

The massive explosion happened at about 11:00 yesterday.

The impact triggered a raging fire which razed some shops and a motorcycle near the scene before the operatives of the State Fire Service could rescue the situation.

The Ogun State Director of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Shakiru Adebakin, told journalists that the fire was caused by a man-made error that could have been averted if the owner of the filling station had adopted simple safety precaution.

Mr. Adebakin said it was wrong to undertake welding activities in a petrol station without certain precautionary measures in place.
