SAME HERE OO: Ireland gripped by horrendous 'fly epidemic'

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...Related imageResidents in the Ringsend area claim they are under siege from a "fly epidemic" and have been unable to pinpoint the exact cause.
The problem started this summer, sparking resident concerns that the flies were coming from the nearby Poolbeg incinerator which opened earlier this year.

Due to the influx of flies, local residents say they can't leave any food out in the open and are waking up to dozens of them buzzing around their homes every morning.
One incident earlier this week saw a dead rat in the area covered in over 50 flies.
Local resident Patsy Doolan, who is part of the local Irish Glass Bottle Housing Action Group, said they're the "cheekiest" flies she's ever seen in her life.
Patsy told Dublin Live: "I'm coming to the kitchen in the morning and it's like an undertaker's with my husband killing them, battering them with a paper.
"The minute you turn on the cooker, you can forget it. People are having to buy the lids to cover the food. You're afraid to take meat out of the oven and put it on the counter. They're nearly sitting down to eat your dinner with you.
"They're the cheekiest flies I've ever seen in my life. I said I'm gonna buy dynamite and blow them up."
Patsy claims the issue has got worse since the incinerator at Poolbeg started operating earlier this year.

"It's the incinerator, we think. We're used to seagulls, but what we're talking about here, we've never had this.
"We've enough trouble as it is. We've 109 trucks going in a day to it.
"We've had a terrible problem down here with the pumping station as well. The dirt and smell has been terrible. The smells have been very bad coming from that. But, last week, we were all talking about the flies.
"It's just an epidemic, and that's it. For what reason, no one seems to know exactly. It is horrendous. It's all over the place."
