Female banker in court for forgery, theft of customer’s N30m

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Monday arraigned a 41yrs old banker in Abuja for allegedly forging the signatures of a bank customer with the intention to defraud him of over N30 million.

Remilekun Momoh, an accountant with Unity Bank, Abuja, was arraigned before Justice Bello Kawu of the FCT High Court, Kubwa on a 15-count-charge, bordering on forgery and fraud.

Momoh pleaded not guilty to the charges.

NAN reports that the defendant had earlier been arraigned in November 2016 over alleged fraud of N14 million.

The EFCC alleged that while at her duty post between May 2014 and May 2015, the defendant fraudulently forged the signatures of one Garba Mamu, who was a customer of Unity Bank.

The defendant allegedly transferred, in bits, over N30 million through a forged letter of transfer of funds into several designated accounts in other banks.

Counsel to the defendant, Lawrence Alabi, applied to the court for the defendant to continue on her initial bail terms.

Justice Kawu, while granting the request after the prosecuting counsel did not object, adjourned the matter until March 15, for continuation of hearing.

He also ordered that all the previous witnesses in the matter be recalled on the next adjourned date.

Nigerian Woman Who Gave Birth In London Hospital With The Bill Of £500k Says She Will Never Be Able To Pay

One of the largest hospitals in the country is chasing a bill of more than £500,000 from a Nigerian woman who gave birth to quadruplets.

The 43-year-old, named only as Priscilla, went into labour three months early shortly after landing at Heathrow airport in November.

She had intended to give birth to the babies in Chicago, in the US, where she has family – but was turned away by border officials upon arrival.

They claimed that although she had a visa, she did not have required documents from a hospital stating that she had the money to pay for the birth.

Priscilla, a healthcare worker, said she was returning to Nigeria via London when she started having contractions.

She was taken to the Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital in west London, part of Imperial College Hospital, where she delivered the four babies.

One sadly died shortly after birth while another, a girl named Deborah, passed away on Saturday. The other two, Elijah and Esther, are still being treated on the hospital’s neonatal intensive care ward.
Staff estimate that the total bill for the highly complex birth and the care of the babies is already more than £500,000.

The cost of treating one baby in neonatal intensive care is £20,000 a week.

Priscilla is currently staying at a hostel run by a charity and is unable to afford the bill.

Her husband is in Nigeria, and cannot come to Britain to help take care of her as he does not have enough money for a visa or the flight.

Priscilla underwent IVF treatment, which has a high risk of multiple births, as she was struggling to conceive naturally due to her age.

She was told by her doctor to fly to the US to have her babies, as Nigerian hospitals do not have the ‘facilities to cater for the children’.

Her case is revealed tonight in the BBC 2 documentary Hospital, which exposes the pressures of health tourism on the trust.

When first warned of the high treatment costs by overseas visitor manager Terry Facey, she says: ‘I didn’t plan to come here.

‘It’s only money. Money can’t buy life. The last bill I had was £331,000 but – even if I worked every day – I would never earn that much money. My kids are priceless.’

Mr Facey, who has worked at the trust for 12 years trying to collect bills for overseas patients, says:

‘Those invoices are going to be huge ... 20 grand a week for each baby [in intensive care].

Mr Facey says other patients frequently ‘disappear into the community’ before he has the chance to hand them an invoice.

These have included a Palestinian man who had an operation to remove kidney stones and then discharged himself early.

"I can't go back. They will kill me" says Nigerian gay man set to be deported from Britain

British authorities are set to deport a gay man to Nigeria on Tuesday night, despite fears he will be targeted and attacked on arrival due to his sexual orientation.
The man, identified only as Oyekunle for his own safety, moved to London four years ago and claimed asylum due to the persecution of the LGBT community in his native Nigeria.
He is set to be deported alongside a hundred others on a chartered flight leaving for Nigeria and Ghana from Stansted Airport this week. Speaking exclusively to RT, Oyekunle said he could not go back to Nigeria because friends and relatives had started harassing him due to his sexuality. The situation had become so unsafe he was forced to flee.
"I can’t go back. When I go back they will kill me," he said on the phone from Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centre.
Campaigners from the Unity Centre, an asylum seekers’ support charity, are now urging supporters to call on the Home Office with Oyenkunle’s case number and complain about his deportation.
"I talked to him about five minutes ago… he’s feeling depressed, he’s not eating… he’s got medication for [post traumatic stress disorder], there’s a lot of medical conditions around him," a friend of Oyenkunle named Joshua told RT UK.
"He’s feeling suicidal."
The Unity Centre said the Home Office never granted Oyekunle a full interview and sent notifications to the wrong address. Other sources told RT the man had “been thrown out and was sleeping rough” before authorities detained him and scheduled him for deportation. Campaigners also said his case is in breach of Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which grants “the right to life, liberty and security of person.”

They accused Prime Minister Theresa May of cozying up to President Donald Trump during her Washington visit last week. "I was there on the day Margaret Thatcher opened her door to P.W. Botha while Nelson Mandela languished in a prison cell," Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn wrote in an open letter to May.
"Margaret Thatcher and the Conservative Party were on the wrong side of history then – just as Theresa May and her Conservative Party are on the wrong side of history today."

Man viciously attacks girlfriend with a log for turning down his marriage proposal, then kills himself

A 31-year-old Zimbabweam man committed suicide after attacking his girlfriend for turning down his marriage proposal.
Pious Sibanda from Ngotsha Village, in Madlambuzi Ward on Friday, January 27th, hit his 26-year-old ex-girlfriend Immaculate Ncube with a log on the head until she lost consciousness
Chief Madlambuzi said his body was later found hanging from a tree on the same day in the afternoon. Ms Ncube, who is admitted to Plumtree District Hospital, said Sibanda became furious after she told him to formally introduce himself to her family if he wanted to marry her.

"Pious told me early this month that he wanted to marry me and I told him to approach my family in Lupane. He refused to follow the correct procedure and insisted that I had to move into his home and stay with him and his family without my family’s knowledge.
"I turned down his marriage proposal and asked to be given time to think about the matter. This pissed him off and ever since that day he became violent and abusive as he was constantly beating me up," said Ms Ncube.
She said she became tired of her ex-boyfriend’s violent tendencies and dumped him.

Ms Ncube said she agreed with Sibanda that they would be on separation until they were able to resolve their problems. The separation did not go down well with Sibanda who attacked her while she was at her work place in Madlambuzi Ward.
Ms Ncube said Sibanda was also constantly accusing her of sleeping with her employer who works in South Africa.
"A week before he attacked me, Pious forced me to move into his home and threatened to kill me and commit suicide if I didn’t comply. I complied out of fear but I later moved back to my work place. On Friday morning, Pious came to my work place while I was with my two-year-old daughter and ordered me to go with him to his home and I refused as I was sensing danger," said Ms Ncube.
Sibanda pulled her towards the gate and started strangling her with his hands. Ms Ncube said Sibanda armed himself with a huge log and struck her several times on the head until she lost consciousness.
Ms Ncube said when she regained consciousness, Sibanda had fled from the homestead.

"I was bleeding profusely and I could hardly see but I made my way to a neighbour’s house and they rushed me to Madlambuzi Clinic where I was referred to Plumtree District Hospital. When I got to the hospital, I could not speak or walk and I was in great pain. I later received news that Pious had hanged himself,"  she said.
The councillor for Madlambuzi Ward, Mrs Jabeth Mlalazi, said Sibanda was found hanging by a wire from a tree by a villager who was herding his cattle.

She said Sibanda was buried at his parents’ homestead on Sunday morning. Mrs Mlalazi said Sibanda’s friends revealed that he had complained that Ms Ncube had dumped him for another man, adding that the friends heard him say he was going to kill the woman for her actions but they did not take him seriously.

"Its 20th day since my humble father Engr. David Agama Esse of Cultural Center was gruesomely killed in cold blood at his service apartment here in Calabar inside Cultural Center Complex. Instead of the government to fight this crime, they all they did was to send a foolish emissary to go on social media, and post false information, (as revealed by the blogger) , claiming to have "arrested three suspects who killed the chief security of cultural center " all in the bid to exalt themselves against the truth that was published by the young Democratic party (YDP).

Well I leave all to God but the beast in me has just been released.

It is even more painful that I have been mourning and expecting moral or otherwise support from the government to the state CID on the lead there may have to carry out their investigations in an attempt to bring the perpetrators to book. Instead, the CRS government is more interested in self glory under false stories.
It is well.
Who no get man to fight for am, get God.
To God I pledge my dependence on this matter.
 Adieu Daddy"
