Prison Inmate Begs For Freedom

An inmate of Warri Prison in Delta State, Mr. Lucky Ishaka, has pleaded with the Delta State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy to grant him and his wife pardon and release them from prison.

Ishaka, 71 and his wife, Margaret, 56, were convicted and jailed for 37 years for conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping.
They were discovered during a visit to the prison by members of the Committee, led by Chief Patrick Okpakpor.
The committee members were surprised to learn that six children of the couple who has been in jail since 2012, were left at the mercy of the society.
The septuagenarian who is now partially blind, pleaded with the Committee to consider his plight and that of his wife by granting them pardon.
Among the over 1,500 inmates of the Warri prisons which was initially built to accommodate 307 inmates, were 222 inmates on death row.
Chairman of the Advisory Council, Chief Patrick Okpakpor, was not happy with the congestion in the prison, a situation he
said should be treated as a national emergency.
Other members of the Committee comprised of the Secretary, Barr. Uju Monye, Dr. Samuel Efetobor, Barr. John Okoriko and Barr. F. Njuokuemeni,
