A mum has been arrested for allegedly marrying her daughter - eight years after tying the knot with her biological son.

Patricia Spann, 43, wed 25-year-old Misty Spann in March this year in a ceremony in Oklahoma, US, court records show.

Police say the couple have been arrested on charges of incest after a child welfare investigator discovered their union.

Patricia was reportedly reunited with Misty two years ago after losing custody of her daughter and two sons to a grandparent.

She said the pair 'hit it off', an arrest affidavit states.

The mum apparently listed her last name as 'Clayton' in her 'incestuous' marriage to Misty on March 25, according to the New York Daily News .

However, she had listed her name as 'Patricia Ann Clayton Spann' eight years earlier when she married her son, Jody Spann Jr, it is claimed. Patricia and Jody's marriage was annulled in 2010.

The bombshell scandal surfaced during the child welfare investigator's probe into the family at their home, Detective Dustin Smith said.

Patricia reportedly indicated to the official that she was Misty’s biological mother and also had two sons - all from her first marriage. The mum revealed she had lost custody of the trio to their paternal grandmother.

Patricia allegedly said that she did not have contact with her daughter until they were reunited in Duncan, Oklahoma, two years ago. The pair later tied the knot in Comanche County, according to court documents.

However, because her name was no longer listed on her daughter's birth certificate, Patricia said she felt no law had been broken, the documents show.

Both women were aware of the biological relationship and had considered requesting an annulment, The Lawton Constitution reports.

They are now both being held in Stephens County Jail.

They could be jailed for up to 10 years if convicted of the charges against them.
