Update! Missing Nigerian photo journalist Yinka Adeparusi found dead

Yinka Adeparusi, an award-winning Nigerian photo-journalist with online publication, Naij.com earlier declared missing, has died.

Naij announced in a statement published on its website that Mr. Adeparusi was killed in a motorcycle crash on Sunday, November 13th. Read their statement after the cut..

"NAIJ.com confirmed that he was involved in a motorcycle accident in Abuja and died on the spot," the statement said.

Mr. Adeparusi left his residence in Abuja suburb of Kugbo on Sunday afternoon with a message that he will be back. But when he didn’t return, his neighbours and later his colleagues became worried, especially when they couldn’t reach him on the phone.

"This was quite unusual because Yinka was a soft-spoken, very professional and clear-headed individual; not the kind of person to wander off," Naij.com said.

Adeparusi graduated from Lagos State University School of Communication, where he bagged double honours in Photojournalism and Cinematography and minor in mass communication.

In 2013, he received the People’s Choice Award for Human Rights Photography in Africa, German Development Media Awards and was the winner of the photojournalism award of the 6th Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting.

20-year-old Nigerian woman rescued in the Mediterranean Sea... photo

Loveth, a 20-year-old Nigerian woman, who was among migrants recently rescued in the Mediterranean Sea by Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS) and Italian Red Cross, said she didn't have enough money to finish her studies in Nigeria so a friend sponsored her to go to Europe to conclude her education. But doesn't that sounds like a warning bell? If someone can pay thousands of dollars to send her to Europe, surely they can equally pay her school fees? Oh well, read her story after the cut....

"Since I was a child, I used to sing in the church. I come from the Urhobo tribe, and I am an expert in our traditional dancing. Singing and dancing is just what makes me feel happy. I was studying Business Management, but I did not have enough money to finish my studies. A friend of mine sponsored me to go to Europe to finish my studies. I left my daughter behind, Merit, she is only 4. I left her behind because I didn’t want to risk her life in the journey. I want her to join me once I’ll be in Europe. I first tried to cross from Libya in 2015 but the coast guard stopped our boat, and I was imprisoned. I spent a year and a half in prison. I was held for ransom. I haven’t spoken to my daughter in 9 months. Once my family paid the ransom, I tried to cross the sea again, and now here I am on this ship. Safe."

Tragic! Photo of Nollywood producer and Director, Ansa Bassey Kpokpogri who dies at age 36

Top Nollywood filmmaker and Director, Ansa Bassey Kpokpogri has passed away. The Calabar-born mother of one reportedly died of pains from peptic ulcer.

Filmmaker Uduak Isong Oguamanam, younger sister of Emem Isong, took to her Facebook to write a glowing tribute to the University of Calabar graduate, whom she described as a friend, partner and colleague;
"Grief. It makes you remember things. Minute details, like the sound of their feet, the colour of their hair and the sweet smell of their body spray. It makes you regret. The holidays you never took, the movies you never watched together, the visits you kept planning to but never made.It reminds you. Of your own mortality. You wonder if there's a row call and what your number is on the list.
Death doesn't warn you. One moment you're laughing with a loved one, your head thrown back, with wanton abandon, the next your eyes are bloodshot from weeping for a loss so deep no one can understand.
I'll never understand, never come to terms with your death. You were many things to me; Friend. Sister. Business partner. Supporter. Colleague. My life was better because you were in it. Sleep well my beautiful ,adorable ,amazing Ansa. Till we meet again to part no more"

Russia’s economic development minister, detained over alleged $2m bribe ...photo

Image result for images of Russia’s economic development minister
Russia’s economic development minister has been arrested in a surprise night-time swoop, accused of taking a $2m (£1.6m) cash bribe as part of a sting operation.

Alexei Ulyukayev is the highest ranking government official to be arrested since a failed coup in 1991, and the move is seen by many observers as part of a battle between differing Kremlin factions taking place behind closed doors.

Ulyukayev has held his ministerial post since 2013, having worked in government since 2000. He is known as part of the government’s liberal wing and has spoken out against increasing state involvement in the economy.

Ostensibly, Ulyukayev received a $2m bribe for giving the green light to the takeover of oil company Bashneft by the state oil giant Rosneft, which is headed by Igor Sechin, a hardliner and one of the most powerful men in Russia.

The government put 50.1% of Bashneft on the market earlier this year, but Rosneft’s bid for the producer was criticised by businesspeople and the more liberal wing of the government, including Ulyukayev, who said the state should not take part in privatisation. When the bidding was finally held last month, Rosneft won the tender with a $5bn bid.

Russia’s investigative committee said the investigation did not cast doubt on the legality of Rosneft’s bid for Bashneft. The committee said agents of the FSB security services were involved in the deal, as a sting operation, from the beginning.

The bribe was allegedly paid to to Ulyukayev, in cash, on Monday. The investigative committee spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko told RIA Novosti news agency: “This is about extortion of a bribe from Rosneft representatives accompanied by threats … Ulyukayev was caught red-handed as he received a bribe.”

President Vladimir Putin had been aware of the investigation into Ulyukayev for some time, his spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said.

Putin has long spoken about the fight against corruption as a top priority of his rule, but critics say corruption is widespread at the highest levels of government, and most observers believe high-profile investigations and arrests are motivated by infighting and a battle for control among different clans, rather than a simple fight against graft.

Russian agencies said on Tuesday morning that Ulyukayev was being questioned by the investigative committee. He was expected to appear in court later in the day, where he would be formally charged, and the court would decide whether to place him in pre-trial detention or release him on bail.

Omg! Man who killed wife after making online search for 'the most painful place to stab someone' gets convicted... photo

Jose Leonardo, 56, who killed his wife Maria Mbombo, 52, by stabbing her multiple times, has been convicted of murder. Leonardo made a search for "the most painful place to stab someone" on google before carrying out the act at their home in Belsize Park, west London, back in May.

The mum-of-three who was working as a cleaner at the time of her death, died at the scene. Leonardo who was a driver for the internet-based taxi company, Uber, met her in Holland back in 1988 and they moved to north-west London in 1993.

Prosecutor John Price QC said there was no dispute that Leonardo killed her, but he has claimed it was manslaughter by "loss of control". On the day of the murder, his mobile phone was used to make an online search for "can I survive stab in the eye" and "most painful place to stab someone." After stabbing her, he stayed in his flat with his dead or dying wife for an hour or so, before their kids arrived and their 23-year-old son Carl dialed an emergency number in tears.

Paramedics arrived to find him trying to resuscitate his mother on the floor of a bedroom. Leonardo slipped out of the house, tried to buy a bottle of beer in a nearby store but was refused. The shopkeeper noticed blood on his jacket and tried to find out what happened. He however allegedly replied: "Just call the police."

Officers arrived to find Leonardo wearing a white vest drenched in blood and murmuring "my wife is dead". He has now been found guilty of one count of murder, but cleared of one charge of perverting the course of justice. Leonardo will be sentenced to life imprisonment today, with his minimum term to be determined.

Lobatan! 'Pep Guardiola banned Lionel Messi from having sex after midnight'

Man City footballer Samir Nasri, currently on loan at Sevilla, has revealed how Man City coach, Pep Guardiola, who was once a Barcelona coach,  banned Barcelona player Lionel Messi from having sexual relations after midnight. He also revealed that Guardiola also banned the Man City team from doing the same thing so that the players can be stronger at morning and recover from muscular injuries.
Nasri was one of a number of players who failed to convince the Spaniard of his fitness and worth to the team, he later joined Sevilla on a season-long loan deal in the final days of the transfer window.
He has now revealed his first impression of Guardiola and how their relationship was before he left on loan.
“I’ll be honest, I fell in love with (Jorge) Sampaoli (Sevilla coach)” Nasri admitted to L'Equipe magazine. He’s a mix between Bielsa and Guardiola, with whom I was with in preseason and he made me realise some things. Guardiola told me that I was a mess, he told me several times and even kicked me in the butt, literally.
“When I returned from holiday having had a year with injury problems and personal life problems, I was a little out of shape. Not as much as what was said but a few, four kilos overweight; For Guardiola, over 2.5 kilos and you do not you train with the group.”
“Guardiola told me with your qualities you should not be at Manchester City, you should be at Barcelona. We had some discussions, he wanted me to stay and play for him. I told him no, because he couldn’t assure me a first team place, I wanted to play. He told me he thought I was making a mistake, but I still have a 2 year contract.
“For him, his players sexual activity must take place before midnight in order to get a good night sleep – even if they are free tomorrow. He (Guardiola) said that he placed this rule on Messi and his muscles improved since.”
'He told us this is how he managed to get the best out of [Robert] Lewandowski too and for them to avoid the maximum number of muscular injuries. He suppressed many things that were in the kitchen.'
'With Guardiola, on the first day of training, you know how you should play, how to squeeze and also how to stand off the ball,' he said. 'The next day, you have videos for everything that you have to do. He will not bully you, but he will do everything to make you progress, to get you to know you how to position yourself and how to play. He's a picky person.'

Update! Remember the White South African who forced a black boy into coffin? He is to be arraigned in Court ...photo

The white South African man who was recently seen in a video that went viral, assaulting a black boy before putting him in a coffin has been caught for his racially abused act as described by many.

According to Timeslive report, the man and his accomplices identified as Willem Oosthuizen and Theo Martins Jackson are facing charges for kidnapping and assault with intent of grievous bodily harm on Victor Rethabile Motshwa.

They will appear before the Middelburg Magistrate Court on Wednesday for the incident which took place at JM De Beer Boerdery next to Komati Power Station.

Economic Freedom Fighters in a statement criticized the humiliating act stating that it could be based on ‘Blackness’ and nothing more.

‘Willem Oosthuizen and Theo Martins Jackson took a video and put it up on social media for amusement after humiliating Victor Rethabile Mlotshwa. This humiliation can be based on nothing else but his blackness‚ which means it is in actual fact a humiliation of black people as a whole.’

Photo of woman who killed her cheating husband in a road rage attack after being taunted by his mistress

A woman who killed her cheating millionaire husband while chasing his mistress in a road rage attack, was jailed for two years in September.
In an emotional interview from behind bars, which is set to air on Crime Watch Daily today,

Frances Hall, 53, says she still loves her dead husband, Bill Hall Junior, the owner of Bill Hall Jr. Trucking, even though his mistress sent thousands of taunting messages, including videos of the pair having sex.
Frances was jailed after being convicted of killing her estranged husband Bill in San Antonio, Texas in 2013. Her husband's younger lover, Bonnie Contreras, 34, allegedly sent the wife sex tapes and pictures of hysterectomy diagrams saying Hall was broken, disgusting and not a real woman anymore.

The couple were married for 34 years and have two adult children, while Bill's affair with Ms Contreras lasted three years. The taunting finally struck a nerve when Frances saw her husband's mistress Ms Contreras driving their 'family Range Rover'  on Oct 10, 2013. Ms Contreras was being followed by the now late Bill Hall, on his custom made Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Frances did a u-turn and started to chase the mistress. She began to ram the car Ms Contreras was driving - in what prosecutors say was a fit of rage, but accidentally hit and killed her husband in the process.

Now in Jail, Frances claims to still love her late husband.
'The times he was leading this secret life, he made sure I was his number one,' she told the program. 'I love him and he is the only man I will love this way. Sometimes, I tell my kids that all that’s left of me is a shell of a woman. But I have to be there for them, they lost their father.'
Hall could have been sentenced up to life in prison for the collision but a jury concluded that the woman's 'sudden passion' was a mitigating factor in her guilt in the death of her trucking company husband. Her attorneys argued the wreck was an accident but she got a two-year prison sentence for aggravated assault.

Now the mistress, Ms Contreras is suing the family for $2.5 million because of the alleged emotional stress from the car chase.
'I know that I never broke up that family. That family was already broken,' she said, claiming that Bill Hall told her early on in their relationship that he was separated and going through a divorce. 'I'm not a bad person, I just fell in love, I couldn't help it.'

Atiku Abubakar says Obasanjo wanted to be a lifetime president

Image result for images of atiku and obasanjo
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had a recent interview with EFCC's quarterly magazine named Quarterly magazine. In the interview, Atiku alleged the his boss and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, had planned to amend the constitution so that he can be president for life as against the third term bid he was presumed to be pursuing. Atiku in the interview said that his refusal to support Obasanjo's request made them fall apart;

"My offence was that I disagreed with him on the amendment of the constitution to remove tenure/term limits or what was popularly called the ‘third term agenda. In fact, he sent the then Attorney-General and Prof. Jerry Gana to my office to bring the draft amendments to the constitution. After going through (them), I found out that tenure limits had been removed. In other words, he could be President for life. I then asked them that ‘if I send you to the President, can you deliver this message? They said yes. I said ‘go and tell him I will not support it and (I) will fight it’.”he said The former Vice President said after his refusal to support Obasanjo's bid, the EFCC was used to label him as a corrupt government official even when there was no truth to the allegation.

Shocking! UK based woman reveals 'Sperm smoothie' is her source of energy every morning ...photo

Vegetarian and mum-of-two Tracy Kiss, 29, has revealed that drinking what she calls 'sperm smoothies' has boosted both her mood and immunity. Donated by her male best friend, who harvests it and delivers it to her up to three times a week, she preserves the sperm by storing it in tubs in the fridge.

Also a personal trainer and nutritional adviser, Tracy adds it with with complementary ingredients such as bananas, seeds and almond milk, to make her smoothie. Sounds disgusting right?

However, Tracy states sperm contains lots of vitamins and minerals – including B12, which vegans like herself lack in their diets.

‘People are so weird about sperm when in actual fact a teaspoon is filled with amazing goodness,’ she says. Did her male friend and sperm supplier initially have reservations about being her personal sperm machine? Yes.

"When I first approached him, he was concerned I’d use it to impregnate myself,’ she admits. ‘But once I’d convinced him it was for my beauty regime he agreed – after all, he has a regular supply at hand! I know he’s healthy, doesn’t smoke, drink or do drugs and I made him have an STI check,’ she says.

On the taste of the donated sperm..

‘Every batch tastes different, depending on what he’s been eating,’ she reveals. ‘If he’s been drinking alcohol or eaten something particularly pungent like asparagus, I ask him to give me a heads up so I know not to drink it neat. Things like pineapple and peppermint make it taste better, but I’ll happily take it straight off a spoon usually.’

Tracy also credits sperm for improving her body complexion thorough her year long facial routines.

Looted Cash Recovered from Big Men to Fund Part of 2017 budget

The Federal Government is proposing to fund part of the 2017 budget deficit of N2.69tn from funds recovered from big men and woman who looted Nigeria's treasury.

The proposal is contained in the Medium Term Expenditure Framework/Fiscal Strategy Paper, which was submitted to the National Assembly.

The Senate had dismissed the 2017-2019 MTEF/FSP sent to it by President Muhammadu Buhari and described the documents as “empty” and as such should not be considered.

MTEF provides the basis for annual budget planning and consists of a macroeconomic framework that indicates fiscal targets, estimates, revenues and expenditures, including government’s financial obligations in the medium term.

The document, prepared by Ministry of Budget and National Planning, also sets out the underlying assumptions for the projections, provides an evaluation and analysis of the previous budget, and presents an overview of the consolidated debt and potential fiscal risks.

In the document, the Federal Government is proposing to spend the sum of N6.86tn in 2017, with total revenue of N4.16tn.

Based on the funding gap of N2.69tn, an effective strategy would be adopted in financing the deficit.

For instance, the government said while part of the deficit would be financed with recoveries from looted funds, the rest would be from borrowings.

The government gave the breakdown of the recovered loot as:
N78,325,354,631.82; $185,119,584.61; £3,508,355.46 and €11,250.

According to the minister, a separate amount of cash and assets worth N2tn have also been seized, the assets and cash seized under interim forfeiture totalled $9bn, N126bn, £2.4m and €303,399.

He added that funds awaiting return from foreign jurisdictions totalled $321,316,726.1; £6,900,000 and €11,826.11.

Kidnappers demand N100m for Catholic woman leader abducted ...photo

A Director in Cross River State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Bibiana Elemi-Edu, was Friday kidnapped by gunmen on Target Street in Calabar.

Elemi-Edu, who is the President of Catholic Women Organisation of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Calabar, was kidnapped at about 7pm on Friday when she went to visit the reverend sister in charge of Good Samaritan Home.

She was waiting for the gate of the home to be opened when the men swooped on her and dragged her out of her Sports Utility Vehicle into a waiting black Volkswagens Golf.

An electronic accessory hawker, Mercy Okon, who witnessed the incident, said there was delay in opening the gate and suddenly some gunmen swooped on Elemi-Edu.

She said, “She was waiting in her car when the kidnappers struck. They forced her out of her SUV into their golf.”

A revered sister in the home, who pleaded not to be identified, said when she opened the gate, she found a vehicle without any occupant. She said some hawkers told her that kidnappers had abducted Elemi-Edu and dragged her into their car.

“Boys selling items in the area saw when she was being abducted and tried to stop the kidnappers, but they brought out guns and threatened to shoot them,” she said.

Meanwhile, a close family source said that the kidnappers had demanded N100m from the family.

The source, who noted that the negotiation had been reduced to N20m, added that the family insisted that they did not have any money.

“The kidnappers initially demanded N100m ransom, but I learnt that it was later reduced to N20m. Unfortunately, I do not know how the family can raise that kind of money,” he said.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Jimoh Ozi-Obeh, said rescue operation was ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victim.

“I have dispatched a team to ensure her safe release,” he said.

Photo of Policeman accused of belonging to cult and killed colleague ...photo

The Cross River State Police Command on Monday said one of its dismissed personnel, Corporal Kingsley Iyeke, shot and killed an Inspector, Edet Archibong, during a gun duel between the police and suspected cult members in Calabar.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Jimoh Ozi-Obeh, stated this in Calabar while briefing journalists on the successes recorded by the command in the last one month.

He explained that after the inspector was shot dead, the police swung into action by tracing the cult members to their hideout where some of them were arrested.

The commissioner stated further that after interrogating the suspects, one of them mentioned Iyeke as a member of the group.

“The suspect said Iyeke was the one that shot the police inspector during the clash between them and the police.

“You will recall that we lost one of our inspectors last month during an exchange of fire with some cult members here in Calabar.

“A majority of the suspects have been arrested. Our interrogation shows that one of our personnel, Corporal Kingsley Iyeke, was one of the cultists.

“After interrogating one of the arrested cultists, he confessed that Iyeke was a member and that he was the one that shot the police inspector dead.

“During our orderly-room trial, we found out that truly he was a member of the cult. We have dismissed him and he will face the full wrath of the law accordingly,” the CP said.

Thirty-five-year-old Iyeke, who is a native of River State, denied being a member of any cult, saying that t accusation was a frame-up.

The command also paraded 10 suspected criminals who were arrested by the police for involvement in various crimes in the state.

Iyabo Obasanjo says 'I don’t think President Buhari is getting it right'

After her whole public drama with her father, Ex-President Obasanjo and leaving office, Iyabo Obasanjo has since relocated to the Unites States where she now teaches. In this interview culled from Vanguard, she speaks about Nigeria, the just concluded United States election and why she thinks President Buhari isn’t getting it right. Read…

So, what is your assessment of developments in Nigeria?

Sad! How a country with so many talented people could be in such mess is saddening. It is the future that actually is frightening. How are children and grandchildren going to do in the future when no one is planning for the future?

Do you see the “Change” Nigerians made at the federal level last year leading the country in the right direction?

Twice recently I have come across interviews of the President (Muhammadu Buhari) and it seems his focus is just on oil and gas. Focusing on oil and gas, a natural resource we have no control over is what got us to where we are and somehow he thinks it will get us out! The time of oil as a king commodity is past and never coming back. In the history of humanity, the commodity that becomes king changes from time to time. From the time of the OPEC formation in the early seventies till now, oil had been king. It will no longer be because if we continue using it at the rate, we have in the last 100 years we will not have a planet. Countries that didn’t use their income from oil to generate other sources of income will be in dire straits, hence Nigeria’s economic woes. Taking oil for granted as if it would be at high prices forever is idiotic. Now if change means more focus on oil and gas as the President is saying then obviously change has not come.

Your party or would I say former party, PDP is today torn asunder. How do you think the PDP got to this stage and how do you think the party can be revived?

I have no idea but it is not only about the PDP, almost everything in the country is upside down.

What is your perspective on the elections in the United States? What do you think led to the emergence of Mr. Donald Trump as president?

I don’t think the elections were about electing Trump; it was about rejecting Hillary Clinton, but I am not sure that lesson was learned.
Do you see yourself ever playing any political role in Nigeria in the near future?
